Saving Empires

Submitted by Litcube on Sat, 2007-05-19 13:39. Space Empires V General

I created a new empire in the new game screen, started the new game, created my starter ship designs, and then saved the empire in hopes that for future new games, I wouldn't have to recreate my starter ships all over again. Yet when I start the new game and try to add my empire, I get this message: "This empire cannot be added because it has spent more research points than are allowed." I didn't add any research to any of the areas, and I didn't process any turns. What's going on?

Your empire has tech in one area... it's planet type rock, ice, gas. You need to set tech level to the 2nd setting (low, I think), load the empire, then go back and reset to the 1st tech setting (no tech).

Or at this point, edit the empire and get rid of the 1 tech level in planet type. then resave the empire. Then you should be able to load the empire with the "no tech" settting.

Method 1 doesn't work. You can't trick the game in to starting because it lets you know it can't be used. The second option works, but if you save your empire again in the "New Game" screens, you lose your ship designs. Ladies and gentlemen, this is retarded.

I haven't found a way to recreate my screen layouts either. :|

Another option is to give the AI an advantage and go ahead and set the tech level to medium, but don't add in tech for your race. This gives the AI a bump right at the start. I haven't figured out yet how big a bump to give the AI yet to make it competative. Right now I'm playing a game where the AI has a medium tech level and I have no tech. and I'm playing balance mod.

In stock it doesn't matter how much tech advantage you give the AI, if you research fighters you blow everything else away.

I think in Balance mod that fighters aren't as powerful.

Oh and by the way, you can save your screen layouts right at the start of the game. Before you've gotten much tech, you set all your layouts, and then go to the menu and save race. You will already have the colony tech, thus starting the problem we're talking about here when you try to use this race again in the future.

I have this problem too. I tried some of the suggestions, but nothing has worked for me. For example, how do you edit an empire if it doesn't load due to the notification?

I would like to make this feature work because its a WOT having to re-entered items every time.

You have to change the game setting first. Both the empire tech level and the race points used. Set them to 5K and high (not all). then load your empire. It should load... then go edit your empire (get rid of your colony tech), then resave...

The key is you have to set the 5K and high tech level to be able to load up that empire. If you set it for all tech then you end up with all the tech, and you'll have a ton of tech levels to set back to zero.
