Star Wars Imperial Ship set NOW Ready for DL

TakAhLah's picture
Submitted by TakAhLah on Thu, 2007-05-17 16:21. SE:V MODs

I've finished the Imperial (Empire) ship set for SEV...at least I think I've finished it...maybe I've forgotten something!

A HUGE thanks has got to go to Nath for providing me with the models and to Evil jedi too.

You can down load it here http://www.savefile.com/files/732884 For now. EDIT: This link is now working...at least I have been able to download the file without problems...you'll need to open the folder and then copy the EMPIRE folder into your empire folder of SEV or whatever mod you use.

I'll get it up here on this site later and also at Spaceempires.net too...but I'll do that tomorrow...got other pressing things to do now...like start Nebula Rising.

Anyway down load it ...please read the readme and have fun.

Report any problems/ideas/comments etc to me and I'll do my best to sort them out.

Thxs Tak

Look out for the Rebels coming soon....(about 2 or 3 weeks)

Hmmm, it looks like the archive is corrupted. I've tried downloading it several times, and it won't open.

I usually use Win.RAR, but I even downloaded Win.ACE and I still get the report for corrupted archive.

Still....I am sure it awesome Smiling

WinRAR can handle .ace archives without issue, so that wouldn't be an issue.

TheEmpire1.1.zip

You can now download the empire ship set in Zip format...as requested Smiling

The pain I had to go through to get that uploaded...silly savefile.com just couldn't upload for some reason... So I've used Hotlinkfiles to host the zip...

Hope that sorts the problem Q.

Yes...the Tie inter and Tie bomber are done...as well as the two other freighters(small and normal)...but I wanted to see if it is possible to use other small icons to represent them(something which doesn't seem possible btw)...if you are not sure what I mean have a look at the Empire_shipset.bmp 378X84...you'll see there is just one space for a Fighter...so that means that all three fighters would be represented as the same model in say the ship build window etc.

The same has happened for the carriers though there are 3 differnt carriers....there is only one carrier icon...its really a minor point but its one that bugs me.

Though they will be included at some point...don't worry.

Thanks Tak.

Yay, the archive downloads perfectly. I am sure this is going to look awesome. Too bad I can't actually test it out since I won't be home for another 3 weeks... Sad

On thing has me a bit confused. There is only a light fighter. I thought the Tie Interceptor was going to be the medium fighter and the Tie Bomber (or maybe even the Assault Gunboat) was going to be the heavy fighter/bomber. Is there any plan to add the additional 2 strike craft models?

Also, if you wanted to add 2 more transports to the ship set, the Storm Trooper Transport would make a good medium transport and the IPV-1 System Patrol Craft would make a good Heavy Transport.

I guess I'll make a new post at spaceempires.net to let them know that the ship set is now ready.

Damn, it sucks that I can't look at these ships right now. Oh well, good things come to those who wait.

Re: Star Wars Imperial Ship set NOW Ready for DL

Submitted by Fyron on Fri, 2007-05-18 18:32.

Would you like your set hosted in the SEnet Shipyards?

Sorry if this comes off sounding critical... There is a 330 kb thumbs.db file in the archive that could stand removal, for the next release. Its better to set files up to install directly, rather than adding extraneous levels of folders. It makes it a lot easier to install the shipset/mod/whatever. Just an "Empire" folder in the archive will do nicely.

If you want to avoid savefile hassles in the future, you can email the files to me in the future and I can host them on SEnet.

well you download it and open the file you've downloaded.

If you've downloaded in zip format you just move the "Empire" shipset folder into the empire folder of SEV...so open the SEV folder and look for the empires folder open it and drag the "empire" shipset folder into it.

If you are using a mod for example the BM mod you'll need to open the SEV folder, then open the gametype folder ,then open the balance mod folder and finally open the empires folder.

Drag the "Empire" shipset folder into the empires folder.

You can then use the ship set.

If it isn't clear just ask again.

Hmmm, sure. I don't have the game on this computer, but if I'll try to recall as best I can. First, unzip your TheEMPIRE1.1 file. Go into your uzipped TheEMPIRE1.1 folder and find the 'EMPIRE' subfolder. Leave that folder there for the moment.

Next, go to the SEV directory in your Program Files (look for Strategy First, I think). You'll find one subfolder that has all the faction folders (all the races in the basic game). Drop your Empire folder into that subfolder that also contains all those other races. You should be able to start the basic game using the new Empire race and ships.

Oh, if you use a mod, such as the Balance Mod for example, you'll need to drop the Empire folder into the races subfolder within the Balance Mod directory.

Hope that helps

I had problem with SSD. It was flickering in strange colors. So as Blocade Runner in Alliance shipset... (Many ships/units were not tested.) Nebulon B, Imp. frigate, ISD (Imp. Dreadnaught), Mon Calamari (Dreadnaught) was okay.

One last question: When will you finish your shipsets? I mean the missing units (satellite for example). Some bigger ships' textures look less detailed I think because they are same sized as smaller ones, so the Nebulon B seems sharp, while a Mon Calamari cruiser doesn't.
Keep up the good work!

Thxs for reporting this...It is something that I am working on fixing...I know the problem...I know the solution, but I just don't know how to get from the problem to the solution.

I'll give a link to the problem... http://www.spaceempires5.com/en-US/node/3379 I think its caused by this command not being directly linked to the models/textures and so SEV does not always execute it correctly...hence the magic mushroom ships.

I've posted asking for help with this(twice at least) but as yet no replies...so I've pm some other people who have made shipsets and am simply waiting on replies.

In the meantime...it is simply a case of refreshing the view...going from one system and back again refreshes and usually applies the texture correctly.
If you are in combat...simply minimize SEV and reopen and the textures are applied correctly...annoying but its a workaround for now.

I'll fix it as soon as I get the know how.

EDIT: Yes there is more stuff to add but I need to get this problem sorted first.

Thank you your help! Now it is working. It seems every shipclass has the same problem, now the freigter was weird. But the minimize works.
I have tested Imperial set. I like your SSD. Amazing! It could be bigger, but it is not important. But it hasn't got engine glows.
Another thing I wrote in my previous comment. You use 256x256 textures for bigger ships too, so they are "blurred". Frigate, destroyer, freighter, etc. are sharp.

Ok I now have the answer on how to do what I wanted to do and also the way I think I can solve the magic mushroom ships...I'll try it tonight and if it works I'll get a new version of the empire and alliance ships out this weekend...with any other fixes they need.

I did have the SSD bigger, but it can cause problems with hieght in combat.

Notes down that the SSD needs engine glows.
I'll also add the other two fighter and freighter types...to both sets
I'll see what I can do about the textures on the bigger ships but maybe I can't do much there.
Change the alliance race port to Mon Matha
and a couple of minor fixes.

Good news! I'm waiting for new sets!
About textures: It seems you have detailed models, so you need more textures which are in one 256x256 file. I saw some other sets. Basic sets are not so detailed as yours, so 256x256 texture is enough. Then there are STrek and Homeworld sets, they use more textures for one ship. Colonial (which is under construction) has got a detailed dreadnaught, but the author doesn't use more textures, so he could make his this big ship sharp with 256x256.
I'm not a modeller, I just write you what I see and I like your work, you made nice textures. (Alliance cruiser looks sharp too inspite of its big size.)
I hope you will do more sets later. Smiling

Hey Deer, just so you know, Tak uses 512X256 textures already for his ships. As is, EvilleJedi's ships and textures push the hardware requirements of SEV. I don't think that Tak wants to take it any further.

Hi! I have a new favorite ship from here. The Alliance cruiser. It is very impressive!
The alliance escort (medium mothership) hasn't got engine glows, eighter.
Yes, you are right, EvilleJedi made detailed ships, but I haven't got any problems with them. I saw the textures but they are in 256x256.
I like TakAhLah job. He made great job with near SW world textures.
But if you see for example a Blocade Runner and a Mon Calamari Cruiser in close range, you will see the difference what I speak about.

I think you speak about albi_joe's Imperials set, which has unfinished, yet (wrong engine glows) and as he said, that was inspired by Atrocities SE IV set which was based on the SW Empire but he didn't make "real" ships.

Basically the problem was that in lithunwrap I was saving the .X files in a compressed format and so I couldn't edit them and had to use the line in the Empire_Ships_XFileClasses file to force it to texture my models. This line was not always working, which is why the models sometimes had funny colours...this is really a problem of SEV as it should work properly but NM. By re-doing the models and saving the .X files in an unconpressed format I can edit the texture names and also SEV has no problem at all.

Fyron: as albi_joe said in your forums: "Although the shipset is labelled "Imperial" and has a few ships in common with the Empire, Atrocities made quite a number of ships on his own. I believe half the point was to have something "based on", not "true to" " So Tak' Empire shipset is true to, while albi_joe/Atrocities shipsets is based on.

TakAhLah: Yes, there are some "little" errors which makes our life harder.
What is your answer my question about adding you sets to my translation?

Other: While I'm workin on translation I found some errors. For example:if you convert the default script files with Scriptparser and copy these .csf files to Default folder, you will see that race which uses this script won't build carriers/freighters any more. Later I have found that I must use round numbers in lines with Sys_Trunc function.
Later I have found that AI can build carriers/freighter except Carrier. It can (and auto build too) designs with Light/Heavy/Organic/Crystalline carriers, but Carrier. Then I have found the wrong line in Script_AI_Globalsettings.txt. Now everything seems okay. Huh.

Albi_joe's 'Imperial' models are very low detail and without any textures. Also, they only vaguely resemble official Imperial ships. They do, however, run better on low end computers.

Taks Imperial models are very high detail and are fully textured. The models also conform 100% to official Star Wars ships.

Hi Deer (that sounds wrong!), EvilleJedi gave us permission to use these models with Space Empires V. I don't think he cares which language version of SEV they are run on. So feel free to to use them.

Just be sure to acknowledge EvilleJedi (original creator of models and textures), myself (organizing and conversion work) and TakAhLah's (SEV texturing and final SEV implementation) work on these models. Enjoy.

Re: Star Wars Imperial Ship set NOW Ready for DL

Submitted by Nath on Fri, 2007-05-25 15:09.

Haha, let's be clear that I know little of making 3D models. As for how I got a hold of this Star Wars shipset, here is the story.

I used to do some script modding for Homeworld 2. In the Relic Homeworld 2 forums, the most impressive 3D work was done by a modder named EvilleJedi. He (and some associates) did the Homeworld 2 Warlords Star Wars mod. These models were simply the best models I've ever seen done by a modder.

But this all happened several years ago. When SEV came out, I wondered if those amazing Star Wars models could be made to run with the game. I did some tests, and was surprised to see that they ran quite well without any further work.

I got in touch with Evillejedi and asked him if I could use his models for this game. He agreed and so I got to work. Unfortunately, I couldn't figure out how to attach the included textures so they would appear in the game.

I offered the models (and textures) to several SEV guys who did 3D work for the game, but they really weren't interested. Finally, Tak found out about the models I was offering and got into direct contact with me. He seemed like a straight up guy and I believed him when he said he was serious about doing the texturing. So I sent him the models and some other materials I converted for him.

It didn't take Tak very long to do the work. He was done in a couple of weeks.

As for my plans now? I am a beta tester for Sins of a Solar Empire (Homeworld meets Galactic Civilizations kind of game). I plan on doing a full Star Wars mod for the game (and I STRONGLY suspect EvilleJedi is as well). A game with a graphics engine like Sins of a Solar Empire would allow for the full potential of these Star Wars models. You might think these Star Wars models already look pretty good, but SEV graphics simply can't do them full justice.

I'll chip in with some words about the Borg...the borg ship set was my first go at using a 3d modelling program and I did it before I started to work with the star wars models...really to practice & make sure I could do textures...I was proud of my efforts, as it was all that I had learned in about a week and a half...now after working on the star war ships, I've learn a lot more about modelling and a need to go back and seriously fix the Borg ship set...which I'll get round to once I finish off the star wars models.

Once I get the Borg into shape ...I'll look to finishing off some of the other star war ships both Imps and Rebels that didn't make it into the main ship sets.

Then who knows...but it will be more ships of some kind or another!...I'm thinking Kilrathi maybe

Just for those of you who want to see what these same models look like when they are used in a game that has a decent graphics engine, here are a few links. These videos are from the Homeworld 2 Warlords Star Wars mod. Look at them and drool.

The funny thing is that Homeworld 2 is a 2000-2001 game. I can hardly wait to see how they look in Sins of a Solar Empire when it comes out next year.

This one is my favorite. It's theme is 'Executor' class Super Star Destroyer versus everybody else combined!

Here is a standard Imperial versus Rebel fleet battle that shows us nobody really wins in war.

Nath: First I saw the SW models, I noticed that they are high detailed. SSD with its many "buildings"...
But if you try the Hiigari shipset, which was taken from Homeworld 2, you will see that SE V engine can use high detailed models with high detailed textures, too. (I don't know how optimized it is.)

Tak: Cool! I like your plans. Wing commander species would be nice.
About borg: I thing baseship is the "big" cube which is 4x bigger than a normal. Dreadnaught is the cube. Diamond is battleship, sphere is cruiser maybe. Pyramid is destroyer. I don't have any idea for more.
About SW freighters - Alliance: Light Fr. could be an YT transport
