Odd Supply Bug/Feature

Submitted by NightHawk on Mon, 2006-10-02 10:59. Space Empires V General

Ok,
I was wonding if anyone else has found this odd thing happening. I had just colonized a world, on the boarder of my empire, and had an escort low on supplies. I had queued up a Space Port followed by 2 Resupply Depots. I told the escort to automaticlly get supplied and it went right for the new world and loaded up on several thousands of supplies. I figured the ship should have gone to an already built depot but it has saved me time world hunting. Has anyone else seen this or am I just tired?

Automaticlly get supplied

From what I have seen if you tell a ship to resupply it will go to the nearest world it can resupplied at, not necessarily the world that you might want it to get resupplied at.

Resupplying

Submitted by NightHawk on Mon, 2006-10-02 11:13.

That is true but I was not aware that an world can resupply a ship. If that was the case why would a resupply depot be needed. As it is looking right now, if it is working like it was intended, resupply depots are only there to make supplies and ord. I however think that it might just be a bug, the resupply depots were not built and if I send a ship to get resupplied it would normally stop on a planet with a resupply depot on it. Not just any world with supplies.

They can supply non-orbiting ships

Submitted by Ressev on Mon, 2006-10-02 11:50.

Thats what a depot is good for.

So if you have a fleet traveling through the system, the fleet get supplied up to the supply capacity of the depot without ever stopping off at a planet.

The colony ship...

Submitted by Skystrider on Mon, 2006-10-02 12:03.

Here is what happened... the colony ship that settled the new planet had extra supplies, and they were left on the planet until your scout ship got there. The resupply depots you had in queue weren't built, and didn't do a thing: they take time to work after you build them anyway. I use this to my advantage, and load my colony ships with supply / ordnance storage for a quick resupply Sticking out tongue

Supplies

Depot now allows resupply of ships in-system. A ship will resupply at a world with supplies, these are generated spontaneously as I undestand it.

Resupply

That is correct. The order is actually 'resupply at nearest'. So the ship will definitely go to the nearest.

So: Depots: Resupply all

Submitted by dwiebe18 on Tue, 2006-10-03 00:15.

So:

Depots: Resupply all ships, Bases, Units in the system?
Planets: Resupply those in direct orbit?

Almost covers it completely there...

Submitted by Skystrider on Tue, 2006-10-03 00:30.

Yep, Depots do all that, but they also transfer their extra supply/ordnance to other planets in the system, if there aren't any ships/bases/units that can carry more.

One thing I have noticed as

Submitted by dwiebe18 on Tue, 2006-10-03 00:37.

One thing I have noticed as farr as supplies og, you can place more than 1 quantum reactor in a ship. So you make a dedicated resupply ship that creates its own supplies, and therefore can resupply a fleet indeffenately with one ship. of course it blowing up on you in a fight would be bad form lol.
