Captain Darren Price – Log – 2442.1

We entered the Dungar system not 2 months ago. We began scanning as soon as we entered the system. At first there was nothing more than what you would expect in a trinary system. High radiation, powerful gravity and lots of asteroids where every where. There was one inhabitable planet on the other side of the system. We didn’t get a good reading on it. I ordered the Majestic and the Hero to scan the stars and give me a detailed report as soon as possible. Meanwhile we were going to look over the planets. Aside from the inhabitable one there was a hand full of rock planets and a larger gas planet at the edge of the system.

They told me later that the radiation and the gravitational forced played havoc with the sensors and that’s how they were hidden.

The Sus, our resident Xeno-First Contact officer claimed they called themselves that, were roughly a meter and a half high, give our take a centimeter depending on the being. They had darkish brown skin, about the color of chocolate, so only a little darker than I was. They had little hair and their skin was tight and smooth. They had glossy eyes, and between those deep black eyes was a flat nose with two tiny slits for nostrils.

Technically, from what we could tell about their race, they were a Minor Race, because they had not discovered Warp Points. They had not managed to discover the right technology to go through warp points. The biggest ship they sent at us was roughly the size of a cruiser, maybe a little smaller. They had a fraction of our shields, our armament and over all technology. In a stand up firefight my fleet could easily crush the few ships they sent to us, and a few more. They had 2 planets, their Home world, and a new colony on one of the baked rock planets closer towards the center of the system.

When we first encountered them they came with 3 ships, and approached the bow of the Intrepid. After we scanned them they sent us an information package, mostly the basics of their language. After an hour the Linguistic Supercomputer was able to translate and send messages in their language. It was a simple enough language, in fact it was remarkably close to the Eee language but that would explain itself later…

Their first message was “Greetings…we mean you know harm.” I was sitting in my command chair; my top button was undone after a few hours trying to hammer out the perfect opening statement from our understanding of their language, subtexts and culture.

The Com officer looked at me with eager pleasure; his short finger hovered above the send button. I nodded and he pressed it gently. Our response was simply, “Hello, we are the United Nations Space Federation.”

After only a few seconds they responded with, “Why hello, we have heard of you.”

I was taken back. I nudged my first mate and whispered into his old ear, “Looks like we are famous.”

“You are the Humans, you like to trade?” They asked. “We like to trade.” Their words sounded small and eager. As of right now we had no picture of what they looked like. We were merely sending text back and forth.

“Now, comm…ask them to wait while…we need to think of what to say to them.”

‘Sir I recommend you sending the standard package.’ My first said. ‘Also we need diplomats in here, quick, fast and in a hurry.’ He said commandingly.

I agreed and we spent the next few hours trying find out as much as we could.

The Sus have been around since the First Galactic War. Apparently they were a respectable power during that time. In the after math of the First Galactic War (Some 10,000 years ago) they were bombed back to the Stone Age, as it were. Over that period of time they reclaimed most of their technology, and changed quite a bit. They are more willing to trade and seek peace. Though they have been forbidden from going through Warp Points, something about a genetic deformity. They think they will die if they go through a point.

Regardless they are now represented by a Oligarchy-Republic.

Captain Darren Price – Log – 2442.7

We have been in the Dungar system for a few months now, about a week ago the Diplomats arrived on the ship and in a conference room they were hammering out some sort of deal.

After learning of their history we cross referenced it with what we new of the EEE. The EEE, being the oldest known race recently moved off of their Home World, were on the losing side of the First Galactic War. The EEE, Sus, and at least 2 more (thought to be wiped out) were up against some unknown force. History texts suggest that there was one force, one empire that defeated this alliance and subjugated them, forcing them to remain in a closed off sector, or in just one system, or maybe on just one planet. Regardless now they were willing to trade, but not willing to have ships leave their system. So United Nations Space Command decided that building a trading station on the only warp point in system would be a good idea. I agreed. What I disagreed with was my year long dismissal from the 9th fleet so that I may supervise the construction of the station: Dungar-1.

Though it could be worse Apparently pirate attacks have been stepped up and we have lost 3 destroyers. The Intrepid, Hero’s and Majestic’s crews have been taking the time to either take time off on the Sus Home World or having low-g fun on some of the smaller planets. I had taken some time off to go down the planet.

The Sus Home World was not unlike earth, or specifically the Midwest portion of North America. Temperate grass lands with 3 large oceans. The Sus were nice enough, often offering to feed me. I don’t think I ate so much in a long time.

The Sus, had lots of Minerals to offer us. There were even plans to set up a permanent Fleet Base in the system. The Sus were eager for us to trade and protect them. I even heard a few jokes that I was first inline for the promotion when the base came on line.

I was getting sick of those jokes.
