Generalized carriers

Just an idea for Balance Mod (or any mod) - since in Balance Mod freighters can carry a lot more than just cargo storage (spaceyards count, for instance), why not let carriers carry more than just fighter bays? In other words, why not allow carriers to devote their X% of hull space to ANY unit launcher, not just fighter bays? (Any unit launcher that actually launches units that is - I don't think mine sweepers should count, even though they are listed under "unit launch"!)

I'm in favor of that. Drone Carriers seem like a valid description to me.

Im not so much for satalite carriers; That would just promote a carrier to a cheap big transport ship.

(I think the starship Andromeda was a drone carrier Sticking out tongue)

Uhm... don't Drone Carriers already exist as a ship size? Or maybe it was a mod...

They exist as a design type, however you can't fill a carrier hull with drone launchers and use it as a Drone Carrier, which was what Ed wanted.

I think that launching components should also be able to repair those units (maybe at a really slow rate).

Or maybe repair bays should have a small unit repair ablitiy and fighter/sat/drone launching componets should have a large unit reapair ability. This way repair bays would be for full size ship repair.
