Importing shipsets to a saved game.

Submitted by QuinRiva on Sat, 2007-05-05 10:01. SE:V MODs

I would like to use a shipset in a saved game, that my friend and myself have just started playing. We play via hotseat and restarting isn't exactly an option as we have already devoted several hours into the game. The game is still early (about turn 12) and neither of us have yet come into contact with anyone else.

So I'm wondering if it is at all possible to hack the save game so that I can use a shipset? I've just discovered the Romulan shipset, and while I'm not exactly a big star trek fan, the texture and model quality are amazing and I would love to be able to use them.

I got a bit of experience with this sort of thing and I'm not afraid to have to hack values in a hex editor (When I first started modding games this was how it was done, no fancy editor).

So if anyone has an idea let me know cheers.

You can not change the shipset used in an existing game. All you can do is modify the shipset you chose to use the models and textures of the other set.

Savegames are encrypted, so you can't just change a byte... Turn 12 isn't exactly a significant investment. I'd recommend just starting over. You now know what your first ship designs are going to be, so it won't take long to make them. Actual gameplay takes almost no time in those first turns (excepting 10 planet start games, but even those don't involve that much initially).
