Idea : how to make Troops useful

Make weapon platforms only to be able to target fighters. That way you will think twice before filling your troop transports with fighters only!

Or fly up with a warship, and bomb the smack out of the planet since it can't target you OR your projectiles...

Not sure that makes troops more useful, or fighters just less useful than everything else...

I don't really understand what you are talking about... you can't make ships enter ground combat...

I removed Troops as a target type for Point-Defense weapons for the next version of the Balance Mod. Should help to emphasis the use of mixed forces for ground invasions.

To clarify that would mean that you would need troops to counter invading troops?

Also I would consider upping the range of PD on the ground considering fighters speed seems to have them easily avoid weapons platforms.

Hang on...stupid question here:

I thought weapon platforms don't participate in ground combat. Am I mistaken in this?

In the Balance Mod PD weapons do ground damage, so some WPs with PD are functional in ground combat.

You can still use fighters to counter invading troops... if they return to the planet after being launched by the planet in space combat. Do they?

Let fix MM the bug that overrides the militia per population settings in the settings.txt file. That would make invasion much more difficult and therefore the use of combined invasion forces more importanr.
