Riot Police needed?

cordas's picture
Submitted by cordas on Sun, 2006-10-01 05:29. Space Empires V FAQs

I have a problem playing the Demo, every time I get to about 30-40 turns into the game a load of my planets start rioting and I can't find out how to stop them.

I have tried researching Culture and then leasure and a couple of other "culture enabled" techs but none of them seem to give me buildings to make my people happier.

The game rapidly becomes unplayable as more and more planets revolt and my research founders to the point where I just give up as I don't know how to help myself out of the problem.

Have you been building urban pacification centers?

You get them by researching theoretical: psychology(2 levels)
and applied: applied political science.

According to the data files the culture techs give you zero benefit, at least for now Sad

Neutral Empire, the peacemakers own enemy

Submitted by LordHavoc on Mon, 2006-10-02 06:34.

If you've selected a neutral empire, then any kind of peaceful treaty annoys your empire. Neutral should really be relabled xenephobe. They do have a natural decrease (in anger) of -50 per turn. But if you are in a treaty with one empire, they get angry at 100 per turn...meaning they get pi***d off pretty quick.
The only thing you can do is built troops, but they arn't affective (-2 per troop). What I would do is create a unarmed troop and build 50 of the per planet.

Even war annoys neutral players at 100 per turn.
Go for peaceful or bloodthirsty, just having ships makes your population happier

Happiness is broken!

Submitted by Baoghal on Fri, 2006-10-13 12:45.

First off, I see in Happiness.txt the Bloodthirsty/Peaceful/Neutral settings, but there doesn't seem to be anyplace in empire setup to change this.
Secondly, I am playing retail ver 1.0. My race government is a republic, and I've chosen naturally happy during the race setup.
All Ive done (10 turns into the game) is build colony ships and colonize. I've built and sent out 4 colony ships. I've built 5 satelittes and launched them over my homeworld. Ive built 8 troops on my homeworld. Mind you, this is all I've done.
At turn 10, I've colonized two more worlds, and have 2 colony ships enroute, and I've noticed that my homeworld population is already angry.
CLEARLY there is something wrong with happiness, please spread the word.

Happiness in SE:IV...

Submitted by Captain Kwok on Fri, 2006-10-13 14:03.

It's actually how it worked for the most part in SE:IV. Values with some Happiness abilities modified the anger level and hence negative values improved happiness.

However the traits were designed with this in mind and increasing your happyness didn't make your population angry. Sticking out tongue Right now there's no reason not to take the angry trait; you get 500 points and your population stays happier.

Speaking of, did the various happyness types go away in SE5 or is it just me?
