Shield regeneration

Submitted by nod2003 on Wed, 2007-04-25 19:43. Space Empires V General

Hey I was playing a game where I started will all technology, and I was testing weps and armor and stuff. During this, I discovered that even with level 80 shield regenerators, my ship only gains 1 point of regeneration a second for each regenerator, despite the description saying that it charges way more then that. I tried the experiment with only 4 regenerators, so compared to my dreadnaught's 45k shields, there was no point to regenerating at that rate. Does anyone know if this is a bug and if I can fix it?

they work fine for me(1.33 with latest BM), but only one generator has any effect, from what I could see they don't stack at all.

Shield Regeneration doesn't stack at all.
If you were playing IRM? This might be a balance point to look at.
To fix it, Go into the components.txt of the relevant game type and edit it to a larger number

shield generators dont stack as far as I am aware. IRM shields all regenerate if slowly even without shield regenerators but I have never noticed if these two effects stack. I my guess is that they are suposed to

At least in stock, based on their tonnage, and the damage rate of most weapons, shield regenerators are almost completely useless. If they aren't stacking, they're even more useless. This is definitely a bug...

In the mod I'm using, they're quite useful for their tonnage. Because regen is totaled every 0.5 seconds (at 0.5 strength of the component), the regenerator acts like sort of a damage reducer, since most weapons recharge at a much slower rate than this.

I cannot believe shield regen does not stack, that is ridiculous. If you have several components, it SHOULD stack theoretically.

It SHOULD make overpowered shields theoretically... Quite boring to play with undestructible ships.

Eye-wink

in which case you have to use a shield skipping weapon, and any ship with that much invested in shielding will suffer when that advantage is removed

Stacked shield regenerators would be far from creating invincible ships. It's very easy to dish out many factors more damage per second than regeneration per second. You would need a baseship filled with almost a megaton of regenerators to become effectively 'invincible' if they stacked. Which they should, in my opinion.

... Phased-Shield generator?

Of course, You can still use other kind of weapons, but then overpowered shields still mean rendering useless most game weapons. Quite boring.

It would be great if they could stack but with diminishing returns: each new one being less effective than the precedent.
