FQM 5.00 Beta 10 |
Announcing the posting of FQM 5.00 Beta 10, for SE5.
Beta 10 is not savegame-compatible with Beta 8, but should be compatible with Beta 9.
This release is meant to bring parity with the newly announced Multimedia Pack. From now on, the Multimedia Pack will be required to use FQM.
Now that there is a separation between the mod and (most of) the images, other modders can feel free to resume updating the version of FQM integrated into their mods, and simply direct people to install the Multimedia Pack before their mod.

Multimedia Stellar Pack (12.2 MB)
Beta 10 version history:
1. Changed - FQM now uses the Multimedia Pack. Lacota's planet textures have been removed from the mod download file, and are now present in the Pack.
2. Removed - Until such a time as a better solution can be made for the ringed planet models, the new ring textures have been removed. Duplicating a bunch of stock planet texture files just to use new rings is not a viable solution.
Please note that this is a work in progress. There are bound to be quirks, which you should report. All suggestions for improvement are welcome!

Re: FQM 5.00 Beta 10
I removed entries from each of the planets in the xfileclasses_stellar.txt file
Thanks for your reply.

Re: FQM 5.00 Beta 10
I like planet glows a lot. I makes it really easy to see what athmoshere the planet has. It also true for planet types, but sometimes it's hard to tell if the planet is rock or ice...

Re: FQM 5.00 Beta 10
I have a 32MB GeForce2 MX, and often have the problem with wrong/garbled images for components and background images. (With the GeForce4Ti I only had the wrong images problem for components under ship display).
Safe mode works but slows the game down to a crawl.
Does FQM use a lot more ressources than stock, and what workaround do you think I could do to solve this problem?
(Downgrading texture quality?)
Has anyone managed to make 3DAnalyze work with SEV?
Re: FQM 5.00 Beta 10
do you have a zip version of the download
Re: FQM 5.00 Beta 10
Longship mod has merged the multimedia pack and the three new components from balance mod. Who Do I send the file to for everyone? Because it will not disrupt anyone's game who has either.

Re: FQM 5.00 Beta 10
Well, I thought about waiting Starcraft 2 to be out for buying a new computer, and with the latest pilotes Se5 is quite playable in Safe mode... But, as you said, I'll probably try to find a cheap card until then if the slowness bothers me too much.
Re: FQM 5.00 Beta 10
Is it normal for the planet images (when you select a planet etc) not to match how they look in the 3d area?
I doubled checked the instalation of the stellar pack and it looks fine, and I can see the nice glow around the planets etc but they just dont match the close-up 2d image I see when the planet is selected. Did I do something wrong maybe?
Thanks,
Myros
Re: FQM 5.00 Beta 10
Figured out why the 3d image and the 2d image dont match:
The stellar1 multimedia pack does not contain any picture files for the modded planets, and then your mod refrences just the 1st two images from the standard game.
ie
Portrait Filename := planet_ice_0001_medium.bmp
Large Portrait Filename := planet_ice_0001_medium_lp.jpg
and
Portrait Filename := planet_ice_0002_medium.bmp
Large Portrait Filename := planet_ice_0002_medium_lp.jpg
Any plans to finish your mod and have the 2d images match the 3d ones? Or maybe the multimedia pack is unfinished or missing the proper files?

Re: FQM 5.00 Beta 10
Ive started work on some basic 2d images for it - just to cover the 2 per 3d style for now. Will post when done in case anybody else wants it.

The fastest method is probably to make the PlanetGlow.bmp texture all black. A more rigorous solution would be to remove the bitmap effect from each planet in the xfileclasses_stellar.txt file (easiest would be to edit the corresponding python script to not add them in the first place).
Re: FQM 5.00 Beta 10
Hi Fyron.
First of all I like the new star types and their appearance, the new and existing stars do seem much better looking. The extra system and quadrant types adds more to the game too.
One thing I really am having a hard time with though is the planet glows, I mean no disrespect but these do not go down with me at all. Is there a way to remove these so they appear the same way they do in stock but still keep the new size scaling?
Thanks for your time and continued effort.
