"obsloete" ships

Submitted by Tilarium on Thu, 2007-04-19 12:41. Space Empires V General

Got a question, is there a way to build a ship with less tonnage your corrisponding construction has it? Example... a freighter starts at 500 tonnage with light hull construction 1. With light hull construction 2 it goes to 510 for the tonnage... but can I create one that is 500? I thought about this last night while I was playing when I was getting ready to colonize a new system but realized the only warp point I've discovered to get there wouldn't allow ships with more then 500 tonnage get through. Ok, thanks.

I wish you could do that....

But there is a workaround, although it requires you to have an obsolete design of the ship size you want. Hit the "Copy" button when you select an obsolete design, and you can use its old tech 1 ship size (and other lower components) for your new ship. Its the only way I've found that allows mixing old sizes and new components.

Also, im not quite so sure whether those 500kt warp points work or not, 'cause I never tried to send a big ship through. Anyone know if they work?

It's a nice work around. Was thinking if it's possible to make light, medium (regular), and heavy versions of ships (frigates, carriers, etc). Rather then having to make all new images and all that just use the existing. So Light, medium and Heavy Frigates would all look like the regular frigate when in game but the light would be say 150kt, medium (regular) is 250kt, and heavy is 350kt. Would that be possible? Ofcourse if I knew how I could go through and do the image work and 3d work or whatever... HINT HINT!!!!!!!!!!

Limiting warp points by size doesn't work.
