Will I like this game?

Okay, hi there. Im new to this whole Space Empires game, so I have a question. I currently play Galactic Civ 2, and I find it amazing. Now the other day, I stumbled across this game, and I decided to look it up, and I found this site. Coming from Gal Civ, will I like this game? What are some of the good, and bad points of this game, and any other advice a noob like myself should know.

Thanks in advance, and sorry to trouble you with my noobish questions. Smiling

Best way I can think of to answer this is you should download the demo.

It depends what you like about Galactic Civ... The AI is tougher in GC. But strategy and options and the ability to mod the game are vastly more complex in SE5. The AI will come in time.

To truly appreciate all that SE5 has to offer, you must player multiplayer. But it is NOT a fast game. It can take months. So for some, that is unreasonable. It works perfectly for me as I have little more than about 30 minutes to put into the game at any one time.

However, for some with more time who wish to play unended for hours at a time, that is a rare even in multiplayer unless you have local players to get together with.

I still find the single player game to be very entertaining. It requires max AI bonuses and difficulty and a mod to be of any challenge. Balance Mod and IRM are the two biggies. Haven't played much IRM but it appears to be more actively worked on and, I hear at this point, more aggressive.

The demo is a good start, but it is indeed buggy and unmoddalble. My advice, buy the game. it can be found relatively cheaply I understand these days.

I have GalCiv2 as well...this is a vastly superior game in what it can and will do eventually -- before even talking about Multiplayer. Multiplayer with this game is the type of rush that keeps you up at night thinking about what to do next, and wishing you had that extra supply pod on your latest ship design. If you want that "twitchy" feeling in your stomach from a great gaming experience, you will find it with SEV. Just do yourself a favour and remember that when you start an MP game, the turns go fast in the beginning, but start taking serious time pretty quick. Don't make the mistake of taking on more than 1 or 2 games at a time till you know how long you take. Use the "waiting for a turn" time to play an SP game. Even though the AI is not great yet, you will discover a lot of key elements in the meantime...try out new ship designs etc. So for $20 to download, this is the deal-of-the-century for a gaming experience that you will still be marveling at years from now.

Agree with the above.
You just have to be patient. Games like this don't happen everyday...

I have been playing both. IMHO, GalCiv2 = short and quick, SEV = long and deep. I like long, epic games like MoO3, Patrician3 etc, so I like also SEV. Note that learning curve of SEV is quite high, mostly because of not-so-detailed manual, but community over here seems to be helpfull.

Propably this is one of my long-lasting games (playing still ocassionally Alpha Centauri, Patrician3 and MoO3...).
