Opinions on ship hull sizes? |
Once you have reached a sufficient level of a particular hull to achieve the next size hulls research area, is there any good reason to continue further researching the smaller hull?
I'm sure this boils down to a cost benefit analysis... In any case, what is your particular course? Do you research destroyers only until light cruisers become available? OR do you max out destroyers or frigates choosing their cheaper cost and perhaps mobility over the larger size?
I'm just wondering what strategies are employed in this regard.
Thanks,

Re: Opinions on ship hull sizes?
It depends on the game version and particularly any mods, but in general, I push on for the next ships sizes at first, start some hulls building, and then work on improving certain previous sizes so that when the new ships reach the front lines and the old ones start being available for refit, they've got a bit more punch.
As for which to choose, if a few more levels will allow use of the next larger weapon mount, I think it's worth it. Also, I generally continue to improve the largest unrestricted hull size that has the maximum available speed (in current stock, that's the Cruiser).

So far in SEV, I'll usually push on to the next level as soon as it's available.
My current game has had a bit more challenge so I ended up pushing further on existing sizes to beef up fighting power.
(as the previous writer suggests, cruisers for example or in my case LC's and Cruisers)

Weapon mounts size requirements are important when considering until what size you want to research a hull.
