Center on Active Ship in 2D Display when Spacebar (Next Ship) is pressed

Submitted by gsol69 on Fri, 2007-04-13 13:55. Technical Support

Please consider a request to center the display around the currently active unit in the 2D Display when the Spacebar (Next unit) is pressed so there is no need to scroll around the star system trying to locate the active unit. The correct start system is displayed, but the currently active ship can be anywhere in that system, and trying to locate that unit detracts from my enjoyment of the game.

Thank you.

Yes, that shoud definately be a TOP priority. I just grew used to it, but this is SO inneficient! A simple work-around would be to change the color of the selection hexagon, make it more visible. Could that be modded?

Thanks for the input BT, I'm glad somebody else has chimed in on this topic. I really dig the game, but searching for my currently selected unit really takes away from where I want my focus to be, which is which star system shoud I invade next? Thanks again.

The problem with centering on the active ship, is that the screen keeps the same orientation no matter which system your viewing. If this were to bounce around it might be disorienting.

My idea was to make the sector selection icon blink. I've isolated the grafic, and the place where SEV impliments this grafic, but I can't seem to make it recognize multiple frames of a blinking selector. My compromise is that I added red scrible line to the selector and it's a little more visable. But I still think a blinking icon would be better.

SEV, more than a feeling.

Well, I thought with the new upgrades that I might be able to add a sequence of frames... It still doesn't work. I was able to add a sound effect though. Now when I click anywhere the icon moves to where I clicked and then beeps. but still no blinking.

SEV, more than a feeling.

Thanks for the effort Rilo, at least you gave it a try.
Regarding the screen orientation staying the same when switching star systems, I don't see the need for it. I mean all of the planets, ships and other entities get redrawnn switching from system to system, so what good does keeping the orientation the same between systems do? I would prefer to see a view in which my currently active unit is in the center so I can start making decisions for that units immediate future rather than have to search for my active unit in a sector with the same orientation as the last. Maybe I am in the vast minority here. If anyone gives a hoot, please make some noise here so maybe it will get someones attention to at least take a look at.

Thanks
