Patch 1.33 hows&wheres help wanted |
Okay, having only purchased this game today and thus logged into this forum, also have downloaded this patch 1.33. Not having this STEAM thing whatever it is, there is no help or indication as where to place the downloaded patch.
However I am cautious too, seeing that that are reported problems with this patch, guidence would be appreciated as to when and where to place this patch and exactly what purpose does it serve ?
Is it only for those that wish to play with/against real human players ?
I would also appreciative to know what the abbreviation PWB stands for ?
Thanks.

I don't have the Steam version, but I thought folks said the Steam version updates itself via Steam...the downloadable patch does not work with the Steam version?
I'm not sure...I own the boxed version and use the downloadable patch (you just run it and it finds the game automatically....). If you have the Steam version just log on and launch to get the patch?

The bugs corrected in 1.33 are far worse and numerous than those introduced with this patch.
PBW is a server/website which greatly simplifies and enhances PBEM play:
http://seiv.pbw.cc/
It was originally made for SeIV, so the FAQ is a bit outdated, but the server itself works great!

Re: Patch 1.33 hows&wheres help wanted
PBW is an abbreviation for Play-By-Web, the primary way to play multiplayer Space Empires. It's a server that handles most of the tasks that the host would for a Play-By-E-mail (PBEM) game.
You can learn more about it here:

Hehe, got ya!
Well... at least you had explained the acronyms, while if asked specifically, I would answer: "Just Google it!"

Assuming you've already installed the purchased version: make sure that you are logged in on an account with Administrator privileges, place the patch executable in a convenient temporary directory, and run it. It should find the location you installed things to and apply the various updates automatically. You do not need to be online. If you get any errors, write them down, but usually it is fairly straightforward.
You may also want to download the somewhat more up to date PDF manual; but note that even the PDF is several versions behind at the moment.
While the current version (1.33) has a few problems, it has a lot fewer problems than any of the previous versions, so I'd definitely recommend updating. (Also, at least some of the problems are with people updating mid-game or using mods; if you're starting fresh with the current version and stock it should be pretty smooth sailing.)
