sphere worlds can be build around a star. you´ll need a space yard ship to construct bases with the propper material on board (compontents that you can put on bases after you have researched the righ tech.
last you need is a ship with the component to initialize the creation process.
you have to use a ship cause the creation process can only be made by a vehicle with movement (so no base).

hope that helped you a bit.

For the Ring World you will need 11 Base Ships. 1 ship with the generator, 5 ships with the cable and 5 ships with the plating. Place all ships occupying the same space adjacent to the "single" star in the system, hit the buildbutton and click on the star. That will do it if you have all the conditions correct.

I don't know if this is deliberate or a bug, but you can actually put your ships in the middle of the star.

It's a bug. Shouldn't work in simultaneous games though.

It seems that people always make questions about sphereworlds and ringworlds, so someone should create a FAQ about them and make it a sticky here since those are novelty items in the game.

One could also create a forum for them ...

OK, I'm trying to do the same thing, and it won't work.

I have 5 base ships with hyper cables. I have 5 base ships with planet plating. I have 1 base ship with the ring generator. They are all in the same sector which is actually RIGHT next to the star.

When I click on the 'build' button and select the dead center of the star, it says "No star at this location." I do it over and over, clicking every sector that the star is in - no build with the same notice. If I just click on the sector without trying to build, it gives me info on the star: Medium Yellow Star.

Now once in a while, after spinning the map around and clicking madly, I will suddenly get an error:

"Access violation at address 0072039E in module 'se5.exe'. Read of address 000000C4."

I am playing SE5 with patch 1.44 in English. Any ideas what's wrong?

Erm... did you try moving your ships into the corona? I can't get them to work unless they're in the corona.

I've encountered enough weird graphics/UI issues with the game that I'm willing to chalk your access violation up to the game's graphic engine not handling the spinning and clicking madly. It's most likely a separate issue from the stellar manipulation one, which marhawkman's already answered for you.

I haven't had a SEV game last long enough to make one of the things, even with Unnamed's AI mod...maybe some day...

If by corona you mean the outer sectors of the star where you can only see 3 sides of the hex, then yes. I have put the ships right next to the star, in the corona, and even in the center of the star. I get the same result each time.

Well, I am not doing all the moving and clicking madly. I just rotate the map a bit, then try to build the sphere. Usually nothing happens until I happen to have the map turned to some random angle that the game accepts when I click on the star of note.

Hmm. I always play with victory condition of 50 years, and in about 25% of my games I can get to build a sphere world (not that I can actually build it due to whatever buggy reason). Typically I've wiped out most of the AI players, but I try to leave at least one of them with 1 tiny planet of wrong atmosphere just so the game doesn't end.
