Making Custom Models

Submitted by ChrisVon on Sat, 2007-03-31 16:45. SE:V MODs

I'm not new to 3d modelling and animation (I have Lightwave, Cinema 4d, AC3D, Milkshape). Unless I've completely overlooked it, are there any tutorials or plugins that can give me an idea on how to make models for SEV? I know the *.X files are direct X text files, but what else should I use or know?

Any help would be appreciated.

Chris

There are various useful threads over on SEnet.

Low poly is better; IIRC the default ships max out at about 500 polys, more for the Starbases and such.

No special plugins needed unless your modeler doesn't export to .x. The texture files are your standard .bmps.

OK, I know where I was going wrong. I'm almost embarassed to admit this, but my models that I was exporting were only like 6 feet wide! lol I couldn't understand why they wouldn't show up in SEV, but that would explain alot. I am currently going to use AC3D as my modeller of choice for right now. It's low cost, but very good.

I'm glad I got this hurtle out of the way at least. Now, on with the rest of the program.....
