aparently it does but make sure you heva patched it to 1.33 as there was apparently a problem with 1.25 and before and Vista fixed by 1.33 other than that I havent seen the came run on MS Vista mostly because most of the machines I have about do better with 98

Hi there, Yea it works fine for me?
The only thing i found confusing was, it didn't show up my save games files in the save game folder?
There is a simple answer, when you know it but took a while to find?
look at top of screen to see the route you have taken to see in your save games folder.
You will see a compatibility folder there, just under the route bar? just click it to reveal your saved games. Otherwise I have had no trouble playing SE5 with vista at all.

Hope this helps Spuda

On vista, I get this bug where you can select the primary display device AND as the second item in the list Display1//my video card, a geforce 8800gts. As a result, I get no fullscreen when selecting the video card but I get fullscreen with bad fps and sometimes white flickering with primary device... so I have to switch to XP to be able to fully play the game, looks like there will be no progress for that bug...

I know that SE5 is a single thread program, does anyone with Vista have the santa-rosa platform? If so does the system successfully detect the single thread and switch from dual to single mode?

Why should it switch? The game will just use one thread and not more, no need to change anything for it.

i am running on vista 64bit with a dual core proccessor on my laptop...i did see a small difference btwn the option set to true in settings.txt. I ran the same turn with it off which is how i normally play then turned it on and it did process each ai's turn a little faster..about 2-3 seconds off ech ai...but then again i am playing with 19 ai, 70+ star systems and we all have over 25 planets, well except for the minor races of course, of which there are 5....i will continue playing later with it on and see how it progresses.

Thunderhit: Glad to know I'm not the only one with that difficulty! I emailed aaron, he fingered drivers, I emailed bug reports to nvidia several times and of course I've heard nothing. I dont get the white seizure-inducing flashes with every combination of drivers and game patches, but the rock-bottom FPS I do, quite a switch from my other life-consuming game EVE Online which our video card pushes at 1600x1200 with maxed AA & AF @ 70-90fps.

My Vista x64 + 8800 GTS just hasn't been a good combination for SE:V. I've got WinXP on a laptop and I've been playing it by hooking the laptop up to my 20" LCD to play it, but what a pain. Here's to hoping somebody somewhere fixes it.

Email your system specs at the symptoms to se5 at malfador dot com.

In the meantime, if you play in Windowed mode, the flicker will go away.

A bump for my favorite bug thread.

I'd emailed Aaron before, but I'll do it again at your recommendation, this time I'll throw in the full report BelArc advisor kicks out.

Is there a workround for the flicker issue yet? nVidea Geforce 8600m GS 7.15.11.129 on Vista Home Premium

Is it nVidea or nOidea? I have had issues with there drivers before; should have stuck with Radeon

Maybe this page offers more information and updates - and one of those hotfixes might fix your flickering issue.

Windowed mode experiences no flicker, generally. It is the only workaround I am aware of.

After much testing, it is looking like there is little Malfador can do. Even after disabling all drawing functions in the game, the flicker remained. It looks more and more like some issue with Nvidia's Vista drivers running DX8 games (which is what SE5 uses IIRC).

You can temporarily lower your desktop resolution to 1024x768 and then run SEV in windowed mode.

The latest beta (v1.53) added an option in hudsettings.txt to set the window width and height for windowed mode - so you'll be able to utilize your display's resolution.

You don't find it; its not a public beta.
