Satellite group teleported to (-100,-100)

Submitted by Dighton on Sat, 2007-03-24 05:10. Space Empires V General

I updated from 1.25 to 1.33 via STEAM yesterday. Patched BM by copying settings.txt. Played about 4 turns and went to bed.

Loaded the game this morning and noticed one of my satellite groups that was defending a WP teleported outside of the system grid to (-100,-100).

I have no idea if Ill ever be able to pick that group up, or how to destroy it. Ill be paying maintenance for a useless group.... forever?

Units, satellite's included, do cost maintenance. One of those lovely new features since SE4.

Fair enough... Still yet -- They shouldn't have been teleported away from its location. I'm glad it wasnt one of my forward defense bottle necks; however, still worried that one of them are next.

Indeed, random teleportation of anything to unreachable areas of the map is a less than pleasant little bug. Was this an existing 1.25 savegame that you were continuing after patching to 1.33, or was it a brand new game you started after patching?

If it's an old game, it could be just a case of random craziness created by the patch, & you'd probably be best off starting a new game. If it was a new game, I'd send a copy of the save game to se5(at)malfador.com so Aaron can have a look at it, because that's definate craziness.

This was an existing 1.25 game that I updated to 1.33. I'm sure these sats were in the correct place after the update because I dropped of reinforments with a frieghter before going to sleep. Its not a big deal if it doesnt repeat again.

As a steam user, it would stink needing to start a new game with every patch. With a job and family, I wouldnt be able to complete a game between patches...

Oh. Steam. Man. I'm sorry. Ouch and all. Best option there is to run it in offline mode until you finish a game, then reconnect and patch, if you want to avoid strange happenings in your savegames whenever a new patch comes out.
