The Fall of the "Infinite" Fleet*

The Fall of the Infinite Fleet*

*For the purposes of this discussion, "Infinite" is defined as 35-ish, at about twice the average tech level of the A.I.

On the 23rd rotation of the 5th spiral arm since the Great Dawn, the ancient and first songs of the Eternal Ones, those whom Dwell in Majesty within the Holy Great-Eyes within gas giants, and verily, doth Live Eternal (until killed) - the Eternal Ones decided that galactic dominion over lesser, corporeal life-forms was theirs, for the bipeds and silicanoids and lesser beings must, of necessity - Practice War No More, for they were far too good at it. Peace would be imposed, peace by force, and the Pax Eternia would last forever, Amen.

And so great knowledge was made, which outstripped that of all others. And so gaseous eyes were floated countercluster-wards, towards a small blue star, about which lived a race of insects, with dozens upon dozens of worlds, small of mind and technology, but also with little fleets or resources.

And so in order to preserve their lives, that they might know true peace under the Eternal Song of Whose Whom Dwell in Majesty, a fleet was constructed the likes of which had never been seen before, a fleet using crystalline and temporal weapons. And verily, though the ships were small, they clustered about a vast floating Dreadnought, singing songs of death and glory.

And in order that nay, not even a single insect might perish in the carnage, it was filled with only crystalline armor of the highest sort, and shields that could not be penetrated easily, nay. And its only weapon was a vast cargo of troops, yea - troops to take over an entire fleet, to bend it towards the will of Those Whom Dwell in Majesty, yea. And so it was sung, and so should it have been, amen.

But alas, though planet after planet fell to the onslaught, there were too many mines on the homeworld to allow the full strength of the shields to hold, even with the minesweepers, alas. And the weapons on the smaller ships could not seem to destroy the satellite grid, nay. But all was not to be lost; the insects had many ships, and a large space-station, all of which could be bent with this one vast troopship, which had been saved for this occasion.

But woe, woe for the Dreadnaught has fallen; for the captain was a fool, and sent ALL OF HIS TROOPS to the first small freighter that he saw, saving none for the space-station or the larger ships. Indeed, he even complained that he COULD NOT have done so, even if he had wished.

And so alas, alas ye all, for the Infinite Fleet hath fallen.
