Extreme Planets Colonization

Submitted by Cyber_Tech on Wed, 2007-03-21 21:50. SE:V MODs

Here is a new idea for modders.

Currently, the colony ships may colonize all the planets of the right type at the beginning of the game, even the ones wich have extreme temperature and radiation level. Would'nt it be better to permit colonization of only the planets that have moderate specs first, and increase the range of planets that can be colonized with increased colonization technology level?

Example:
At level 1 the rock colonization module would allow colonizing rock planets that have a temperature range +/- x% of the race homeworld. The same principle would also be used for the radiation level.

So as colony level increases: the colonizing module cargo capacity, temeprature range and radiation range would also increase.

That would permit to give a purpose to the temperature and radiation level parameters, add some reality to the game while increasing the fun factor! Smiling

Correct, it would slow down expansion and make the colonizable planets precious !

I'm just voicing the idea, so hopefully somebody takes time to develop it in its mod.

That is not possible to mod as a function of radiation etc. What you could do is add a bunch of extra planet types simulating it, and give them appropriate new radiation formulas. Then, you could have rock colonization open up more and more colonization type abilities. To simplify things, the abilities could just be added to the same colony module, to make it more transparent to the player.

I'm not sure that this would actually make the game more fun to play, though...
