The story of my people began in galactic year 2400.0 as due to the start of over crowding on our home planet of Night Angel began to reach its peak. Our world had lived in peace for several hundred years since the last great war under the leadership of Ranger Lord Rococho Ranger, and due to our relatively low rate of reproduction colonization of other worlds had never been needed. However be it our blessing or our curse my people are immortal, we can only die in battle and once at maturity we no longer age.
It was long ago that we had mapped our home system through the use of long range probes we called drones and there was two other planets in our system with breathable atmospheres so work began on large colony ships. The progress of these first colonies was incredible as once set about a goal we can operate in perfect sync with each other to the betterment of ourselves and to further the greater good. By the start of 2401.0 both planets code names Night Harbour and Night Port were established shipyards and mining planets, and two further "earth" class planets were founded with domed colonies for the purpose of research and satellite factories.
Unlike other fledgling races when they endeavoured into space we held no illusion that we were alone and the two warp points in our home system were heavily fortified with many satellites and mines. Only then did we dispatch our unmanned probes through the survey the systems beyond, as you see for a race where it takes one hundred years to reach maturity you are not prone to the reckless use of lives. Our main objective was to discover more resources with which to further our technology for the eventual time when we must meet other races in battle.
Month after month our probes surveyed the systems surrounding our home system and it appeared that we were at the centre of a small cluster of roughly 7-8 systems. while the colonies in the two systems adjoining our home system were still establishing themselves the Ranger Lord decided that even if we had yet to encounter any other races that we should establish our defence so first contact wouldn't take us off guard. After pouring over the star charts returned by our probes he decided upon a static defence at three key warp point leading into the cluster, thus isolating seven systems as our domain which we could colonise at our own pace. While the shipyards where in full production of a new class of satellite fresh out of the research labs, first contact was finally made.
In the year 2403.3 the probe Farsight one found an out laying colony of the Xiata Empire approximately 5 jumps from the night system. They were immediately perceived as direct competition by the Ranger Council as they apparently only had the technology to colonize earth class planets and also they breathed oxygen like us. Rococho was torn between the desire to complete the blockades and seal off the cluster, and the wish to expand our so far minimal navy in case they launched an offence before the blockade was complete. In the end our planetary shipyards were split between the two purposes and new state of the art frigates were built in mass numbers using our two newest technologies of energy pulse weapons and shields.
In Year 2406.1 our forces were taken off guard as another neighbouring empire to the galactic south of our cluster launched an offensive against our outermost system at what became known as The Battle Of Epsilon Gate. Their fleet was roughly 12 destroyers all more advanced then our own for we could only muster a small defence fleet, it was however our blockade that evened the scale. Rococho's gambit to reinforce the gate with many armed satellites proved a wise investment, as it was their barrage that ended the battle as a stalemate after several hours of battle. only three of their ships survived the battle on our side of the gate, and with none of our fleet surviving to give pursuit three drone class warheads were dispatched from Omega Angel, the only colony in the system. In the after mass of the battle several ship yards were now permanently dedicated to warship production and a great many more satellites were deployed to protect the gate, as the saying goes, once burnt twice shy.
