Remote extraction bug?

ekolis's picture
Submitted by ekolis on Tue, 2007-03-20 19:36. Space Empires V General

I thought that only one ship could mine/farm/refine from an asteroid field at a time (per resource), but in one of my PBW games I accidentally sent two farmers to the same asteroids and they appear to be both generating organics... Is this a bug or did Aaron just change the behavior of remote mining from SE4? I imagine this could be exploited quite easily if the resource values are not depleted multiple times per turn!

remote mining had some display issues in earlyer versions.
maybe this is also just a wrong display, 2 ships show that they are mining but only one is counted for resources.
so i would guess it´s a bug.

I think that it is fine. I mean think about, and asteroid belt would be huge! One ship aint mining from all the asteroids at once...It would be one at a time, ya know? so a fleet of them could gather from each asteroid...

no, that wouldn´t be ok for the gamebalance. think of a planet (or asteroid field) with very good values and you just drop hundreds of remote-miners there. you could produce ton´s of minerals and just live in 1 system.

But resource colection ships have horrid maintanence costs, and there output barely matches their maintence fees, plus the asteriods lose resource % every time you mine there.

Although you neglect the efficiency of a remote mining base...

These especially with all the three types of remote extractor on in quantity produce prodigious amounts of raw material especially if you have researched them to a decent level tl20+ in stock however ship mounted ones are good in dealing with a sudden crisis in that you can keep them mothballed and deploy them when you need them

I would sugest that you also research storage or cargo as it would be a crying shame to waste all this stuff
