Alliance Treaties |
Why is it, that in every game where I create an alliance, I can't use the alliance chambers to make treaties with any other nations? I'm always told its forbidden - but isn't that one of the points of having the button? So your alliance - now your nation, effectively - can engage in treaties with others?
And I still get GADS of people offering me crap I don't want (and am not allowed to accept), even though I'm in an alliance!

Re: Alliance Treaties
I have the same problem, and there is NO option about treaties with others, which makes alliances completely useless. So far alliances are broken... though maybe you could still use them in multiplayer with no AI...
Re: Alliance Treaties
i think the only useful feature of an allience is i assume if war is declared on one memeber is counts on all members

Re: Alliance Treaties
Isn't that what mutual defense pact already do?
Re: Alliance Treaties
In our MP games we've ran into a ton of difficulty with alliances too. If 2 human players form an alliance and then try to add a 3rd human players that "vote" never seems to work thus making it virtually impossible to expand an alliance.
Re: Alliance Treaties
I've just started an Alliance in a multiplayer PBW game, and encountered this very same problem. I've poked around the forums but found nothing else - is this a bug, or a lack of a feature? It seems to be a glaring ommission from this vantage point since, as the OP mentioned, that is one of the motivations for having an Alliances after all.
Another issue I encountered at the same time was all of my treaties with non-Alliance members suddenly disappeared, and of course now I can't re-establish because new treaties are "forbidden" by my Alliance. I read in the changelog that this latter problem was supposedly fixed in version 1.22. Has this bug re-appeared? Or was it not fixed to begin with?

Re: Alliance Treaties
Oh really? Alliances are not supposed to prevent alliance members from making treatises with other empires? Man, they need to get that bug fixed ASAP!
The manual says Alliances are like the United Nations. Can you imagine the United Nations forbidding countries from making free-trade pacts with each other, forbidding embassies, etc.???
Re: Alliance Treaties
You can't even make peace when you're in an alliance. Not you, and not the alliance as a group. There are also plenty of exploits, like trading 1000 minerals to the alliance for a handful of techs, and voting it through (in 1p).
The other members never see you as a friend for diplomacy purposes. You can't fight each other, but the presence of each other's ships will riot populations and they will grow to hate you. Eventually you can't exploit anything because they'll all vote against you. They'll warn you to leave their systems, and even declare war - but no fighting can occur until someone leaves the alliance. It is sort of like the U.N. after all. But not in the way it's intended.
Just don't use it until it's fixed. There's no real need. The parts that seem to work are the no combat, and the voting (for 1p at least). And trade. You can make a fortune with enough members. Supplies and repair share if you get on a planet and tick off the owner. It's about half implemented, maybe a little more; but not very playable.
And to clarify, others can still declare war on you without declaring war on the alliance. They can be at peace with some members while at war with the alliance. Those things don't correspond at all.
One fair thing: if you trade planets to the alliance, they go to the members in turn, by join order. I joined second, so the second junk planet I traded them never changed hands. I eventually got them about 1/2 as mad at each other as they were with me. But surrenders may not divvy up that way. Empires seem to surrender to empires - not to the alliance.

Re: Alliance Treaties
it depends wat options you picked when you formed the allience, there is an option about treays with others and also how often members can be added
