*spoiler* this may ruin your game

Submitted by emgluon on Fri, 2007-03-16 07:01. Space Empires V General

SPOILER

READ THIS AND IT MIGHT RUIN YOUR ENJOYMENT OF THE GAME (PATCHED AND MODED)

The random seed is not saved in the savegame file. With a bit of reloading you can make the AI accept any trade deal. Even a very silly one trade like, i'll trade you homeworld plus all of your colonies for a few techs.
Try this for yourself. Start a new game with an AI in your home system and do the following.

Turn 1. Use you research bonus to get as many cheap tech as possible in turn 2. Build a cheap scout to contact the AI.

Turn 2. Contact the AI and trade all your new techs (also the conlony ship tech if different) for its homeworld.

Turn 3. Save your game

Turn 4. See if the AI has accepted the trade, if not reload turn 3 and try again.

With this strategy i can usualy get the AI to agree to trade is homeworld with only a few reloads (less than 5). Then the next turn the AI will usually be kill because it will have no colonies or ships left. Sometime it'll have time to build a colony ship in the first 4 turns, you can trade for that as well.

Even better still, you can keep building cheap scouts to contact other civs and trade for all its colonies. In the current game i've got 8 civ to trade all it colonies to me without firing a single shot.

This has to be some sort of bug, hopefully its be fixed soon because i just cant resist the temptation to cheat.

The proper fix for this item is to improve the "trade value" calculation in the AI's scripts.

in which case I asume

1 it wont work in the balence Mod
2 it would be an relativly easy fix for MM especialy as Aeron seems to be in a mood to rebalence stock at present.

3 do you ever sleep captain?

The AI should also probably be prevented from trading away its last planet, regardless of trade values.

During the early part of a game I played I dominated/conquered two opponents by purchasing their planets, including their home worlds. I would purchase one planet every few turns. They usually accepted about 30,000 to 50,000 each of minerals , organics, and radioactives. A few times I had to include an old ship.

there is a place for economic conquest, but it should cost more. To balance things I think it should be weighted towards tecnology not minerals, organics, and radioactives.

SEV, more than a feeling.

I'm just curious, from a developer's point of view:
Is this something that needs to be fixed? If a player wants to cheat, they're eventually going to be able to find a way to do it. Not trying to detract from the post, just idle curiousity.

*Re-post reason: I wanted this post at the end of this thread, not immediately after my other post.

This was done with out using the game reload cheat.

Also, one of the opponents that I purchased planets from was left with one lower grade, domed planet and no military declared war on me! That is just ridiculous. I suppose that I could imagine that the leader went insane as the reason for doing this.

I still love what this game currently has and all of its potential. I'll be waiting for more official updates. Currently I'm playing Civilization IV Warlords then I'll play Galactic Civilizations II Dark Avatar. I suppose that I could also play Space Empires IV again but I don't like going back to a previous version of a game once there is a sequal. I also have Space Rangers 2 Rise of the Dominators waiting.

I might even try again Master of Orion III with the unofficial Vanilla upgrade. MOO3 is said to be better with this along with the official 1.2.5 upgrade. http://www.moo3.at/mods/index.php?action=displaycat&catid=17
MOO3 is... alright. The official update version 1.2.5 resolved many issues but not all, of course. There are many bad aspects but also many good features that would be nice if seen in more games...maybe in future Space Empires?

Empires need to have a block from ever trading away their homeworld and/or their last colony, be it stock or a mod...it's just silly that they would accept such a thing. That's surrender, not trade...

This is both a bug and an exploit, whether you do it in the first few turns or years into the game. Bugs can and should be fixed, exploits are just ways of depriving yourself of the enjoyment the game would ordinarily provide. If you feel you have to do this as long as the game allows it, well, have fun with that...to me, your rationale sounds a lot like "I must drive in the oncoming lanes of the road because there's no divider to prevent it." Umm...
