Diplomatic Requests

Submitted by JeffGeorge on Mon, 2007-03-12 20:37. Space Empires V General

What is taking place when another empire asks for intelligence assistance or other similar things? What exactly am I giving them?

They are asking a) To be give them something like resources or b) Use intel/attack another empire.

Right, but if I agree how do I know what exactly I am giving them? If they ask for resource or Intel assistance, am I giving them out of my treasury? If so, how much? Or if I agree am I just talking a good game, and it's my responsibility to actually do something?

as I understand it you are initialy only agreeing to do whatever it is they asked for. However to actualy do it you have to do somthing else like set up a cooperative intel project give them resorces, ships etc Send a fleet to fight their enamies. I have been knowen to agree to help and then do nothing but it makes them happy and costs me nothing Evil Kzin that I am.

You're supposed to follow up with some sort of action.

The AI is decent at accepting/refusing requests from players, but it doesn't look like there's any functions that check to see if the request was actual fulfilled or not after the player's accepted. However, I'd suggest for fairness at this time, that you should "refuse" the request if that's what you really want to do rather than exploit the loophole - at least until it's addressed.

I thought that perhaps if they asked me for something and I agreed then x amount would automatically be withdrawn from my Treasury. Now that I know better I will make sure I follow up, unless I'm just trying to make false promises. Smiling
