Galactic History: Hiigaran Coalition

Submitted by GreaterGood on Sun, 2007-03-11 01:55. Space Empires V After Action Reports

Good evening, class. Tonight's lesson will focus on the Hiigaran Coalition of the Soatyu Quadrant, and their wars with the many races inhabiting that quadrant.

The Beginning(2400.0-2406.3)

The Hiigarans were a simple humanoid race on the fringe of the Soatyu Quadrant, and evolved at roughly the same time and pace as Terrans of Earth. The Hiigarans finally discovered space travel in 1999.9, galactic calender, and discovered ion engines several centuries later. The Hiigarans were natural merchants, and were always conducting business diplomatically. Hiigaran society was always a democracy, with gender equality, and all people being of equal standing in society when it came to politics. They colonized the planets in their home system of 'Xanthar.' Any rock planets in the system were colonized and immediately built upon. Five planets, not counting the Hiigaran homeworld of Hiigara, were colonized: Xanthar VII, renamed Reach, Xanthar II, renamed Tanis, Xanthar III, renamed Kronus, Xanthar VI, renamed Tartarus, and Xanthar X, renamed Lorn. Lorn was rich in minerals, and became a major mining planet for the Hiigarans. Tartarus was rich in radioactive materials, and was covered in Radioactives Extraction buildings. Reach had no real resources available, but plenty of space. It was covered in resource storage bays for organics, minerals, and radioactives. Tanis was covered in Research facilities, to help the Hiigarans advance their society. And Kronus was rich in organics, a fertile world. Organics farms were built here. As a result, Hiigaran society grew, and flourished. The Hiigarans discovered energy shielding, heavier armor for their ships, better projectile weapons, energy stream and burst weapons, large ships, and highly enhanced sensors. (Game Note: Waited awhile, getting lvl 9 armor, lvl 4 shields, lvl 13 projectile weapons, lvl 11 energy stream guns, lvl 12 energy burst guns, lvl 5 light hull, lvl 5 light-medium hull, lvl 5 medium hull and lvl 5 medium-heavy hull construction and lvl 11 sensors.) And then the Hiigarans found the Warp Point.

Beyond Xanthar(2406.3-2408.5)

Two years after the establishment of the colonies off of Hiigara, a strange anamoly was detected at the edge of the system. The Hiigarans sent one of their Phantom-class gunships(I go by other names for ships. Gunship=frigate, frigate=destroyer, destroyer=light cruiser, and so on.) to investigate further. After scanning the anamoly for two solid months, the scientists on Tanis assumed it might be some kind of wormhole. The gunship recieved orders to pass through the wormhole. Upon passing through, the gunship found itself in a completely new star system.

Colonization of the Outer Systems(2408.5-2410.4)

Upon recieving word of more systems and planets beyond the wormhole, more colony ships were constructed and sent through, with gunship and frigate escorts. Three entire systems were colonized, with more and more planets falling under Hiigaran rule each month. Eventually, the Hiigaran Coalition encompassed a dozen systems, fortified by orbital garrisons of several fighter wings backed by gunships. Life was good for the average citizen.

First Contact(2410.4-2410.8 )

The Hiigaran Coalition, led by High Diplomat Karan S'jet, had prospered for over a decade under S'jet's leadership. She had led the Hiigarans beyond their home in search of prosperity. They had found it. Their technology advanced more each day, and they loved the fact that their society was wonderful.

Meanwhile, on the edge of Hiigaran space, a miraculous discovery was made. The Hiigarans were not alone in the universe. A tragedy followed, however.

An unidentified vessel came out of an unexplored warp point, in the Hiigaran-dominated Quikil system, and was detected by Hiigaran garrison troops. A transcript has been made of the radio chatter that passed between Hiigaran Defense Force soldiers during, before, and after the moment that the alien ship jumped in. Four outdated gunships and two dozen outdated fighters were on station in orbit over the three planets that Hiigaran colonies were established on in Quikil when the ship jumped in. The transcript is as follows...

Bishop Six(Fighter): So, Phil, how are things goin' between you and Sarah?
Bishop Three(Fighter): Oh, it's great. She's smart, caring, kind...and by the gods, she is HOT.
Bishop Six: *laughter*
Bishop One(Fighter): Keep the channel clear, you two.
Bishop Six: Yessir.
Borrman(Gunship): Attention all units, we are picking up something on the edge of the system, near the Warp Point!
Anubis(Gunship): Roger, Borrman! One of ours?
Borrman: ...No...no, it's not one of ours...
Anubis: What!?
Fisher One(Fighter): Fisher Wing, form up! We're getting a closer look.
Bishop One: Bishop Wing moving to assist.
Borrman: Roger, all other units tighten perimeter. Send a message to the homeworld. We're not alone in the universe!
Bishop One: We have a visual...will you look at that thing...
Bishop Three(Fighter): INCOMING FIRE! UNIDENTIFIED CRAFT IS HOSTILE!
Bishop One: Understood, taking evasive action! Return fire, RETURN FIRE!
Bishop Six: *explosions*I'M HIT! I'M-*static*
Bishop Two: Phil! PHIL! DO YOU READ ME!?
Bishop Six: *static*
Bishop Two: NO! DAMMIT! They'll pay for that!
Fisher Three(Fighter): Targeting the engines! Reading ion signatures! The bastards have the same propulsion methods we do! *sounds of gunfire as fighters return fire on the ship*
Bishop One: What the hell? That thing doesn't have any shields! Easy pickings! All units, target the engines! Cripple that thing!
Bishop Two: I'm hit, ejecting! *static*
*explosions occur as the alien ship's engines blow up*
Fisher One: All fighters break off and return to base! Get an SAR shuttle out here for Bishop Two!
Borrman: Casualties?
Fisher One: One. We lost Bishop Six.
Bishop One: He was a good man.
Borrman: Roger. Status on the enemy vessel?
Bishop One: Crippled. But I think it's not out of the fight just yet.
Anubis: We're moving in to get a better look.
Bishop One: Keep your distance.
Anubis: Understood.

More peaceful contact was made a month later with the crippled ship. Translation software on both ships helped with the language barrier. It was revealed that the ship was a vessel belonging to the Amon'Krie Continuum. They had entered the system under the assumption that it was not occupied. When the Hiigarans came too close, they assumed that they had hostile intentions, and opened fire as a defensive measure. The Hiigarans apologized for crippling the ship, and the Amon'Krie apologized for the fighters they had destroyed. A non-agression pact was signed shortly afterwards. The Hiigarans had made first contact with a friendly race, at the cost of a life, the life of Private Phillip Ayui, HDF fighter-pilot.

Exploration(2410.8-2412.0)

The next year began the second decade of leadership under Karan S'jet. Due to the non-aggression pact, Hiigaran vessels were granted permission to pass through Amon'Krie territory, and vice-versa. The Hiigarans explored through several systems, before encountering another race, the Xiati. The Xiati were far different from the Amon'Krie. They refused to sign the non-aggression pact they were offered, but did not openly fire on Hiigaran ships. After multiple repeated attempts, tensions ran high. Eventually, it was discovered that certain Hiigaran files had gone missing, among them, weapons schematics, and fleet deployment orders. It was discovered that the Xiati were behind the entire operation. The Xiati were ordered to cease and desist, but they refused. Karan S'jet declared war. The Hiigaran-Xiati War had begun.

The Hiigaran-Xiati War(2412.0-2415.5)

The minute the war had begun, new ships, fighters, and ground vehicles were immediately being cranked out by the many weapons-production facilities across Hiigaran territory. This war would see the birth of the 1st Hiigaran Infantry Regiment, as well as the 2nd and 3rd Infantry Regiments. Troop transports, heavily armored and shielded population transports commonly used to carry colonists, were constructed to carry these men and women. The war lasted for nearly three and a half years. Over 100,000 soldiers on each side died over the course of the conflict. It was the first large conflict to occur in this quadrant. The Xiati Empire had control over seven systems, the Hiigarans had nearly twice as many. The Hiigaran infantry, fighters, and ships had energy shielding, as well as meson and anti-proton-based weaponry. The Xiati troops had temporal technology, as well as projectile weapons that were on par with Hiigaran slug-throwers. On top of that, the Xiati had a far superior intelligence network.

The first shots of the conflict were fired in the Xillantha system, on the Xiati/Hiigaran border. A half-dozen Hiigaran gunships backed by a pair of frigates entered the system, and encountered about a dozen Xiati gunships, backed by a pair of frigates. The enemy was scattered all over the system, and the Hiigarans split up to better deal with their many targets. Two months after the initial entry of the system, the Xillantha system had no contacts other than Xiati colonists on the surfaces of three planets. Hiigaran troop transports were deployed to deal with the militia garrisons. In less than a year, the Xillantha system had been taken.

Xiati planets and ships fell, day after day, month after month, until only the homeworld of the Xiati remained. The heavy casualties and damage to many ships and vehicles had taken their toll on the war effort of each side, but the Hiigarans continued their advance. After breaking the last blockade over the Xiati homeworld, the 17th Infantry Regiment, an ad hoc unit formed from the remnants of the shattered 15th, 16th, and 14th regiments, landed on the Xiati home planet. Heavy casualties were suffered, but they took the world. The Hiigarans won after three and a half years of war.

Present Day(2415.6)

The war ended just barely a month ago. Even an empire as great the Hiigaran Coalition needs to rebuild after such a conflict. Alot of Xiati ships no doubt escaped destruction and capture, and have escaped to regions beyond known space in an attempt to regroup. They'll be back. These 'Xiati Pirates' as they have come to be called, will no doubt be encountered later. Meanwhile, the Hiigarans must grieve: Virtually every single family in Hiigaran space lost a son, daughter, friend, mother, or father during the war. The Hiigaran military needs to replace the many vehicles and ships destroyed during the war, which will no doubt take a toll on the treasury of the Coalition. Meanwhile, Xiati POWs and civilians, now prisoners on their own colonies, are kept in check by orbital garrisons, and infantry companies left planetside to keep the peace. Hiigaran exploration ships continue to search for more worlds to colonize.

This concludes tonight's lesson, class.

Thanks for this story, it's a good one. Have you really played it with SEV ?

You are better off waiting for Sins of a Solar Empire if you want to play that kind of epic storyline. Also, it will have the bonus of a Homeworld feel tactical game element.

Yes, I have. And to the second guy, I actually played this race in SEV. I just made a storyline to coincide with the game's events. That's what I do with all my Galactic Histories.
