Flags - A dumb question.

Hi Folks,

I've been working on adding some artwork to augment the original game and I've run into one slight problem. I have created templates for new race flags that follows the same format as the original artwork, but I can't seem to get the right "shine" (the vertical lighting) on my artwork.

Does anybody know how to do this in either Photoshop 6, or Paint Shop Pro 9?

The best way would probably be to work with layers. Draw your flag on the first layer and make a second layer with the shine or vertical lighting effect, this second layer should be in greyscale. If you set this layer to "multiply" or if you make it somewhat transparent the shine effect should appear on the underlying flag. This vertical lighting layer should be usable for any other flags you make.

I guess you could easily make the shine or vertical effect layer by applying a gradient. but I'm not sure how any of this would work in photoshop or paint shop, since I use Gimp myself.

Yea, thought of using a gray map, didn't quite give the results that I wanted.

The really irritating part is that I did this before, just so long ago that I forgot. Anyways, I did finally create a custom gradient fill (Photoshop) that does the job.

Thanks for the suggestion thought as something you wrote did jog my memory on how to do it.

Sincerely,
Kahn
