Tired of same old names

Submitted by Syko on Fri, 2007-03-02 09:27. Space Empires V General

I have read that there is a map generator mod coming later on. But for now is there a simple way to change the names of star systems?

Star system names are chosen from SystemNames.txt in the data folder. There are plenty of custom name files around... I just can't seem to find any links at the moment. Sticking out tongue

Try this one:

http://dna.spaceempires.net/

This is for the Design Names Anthology. Something like 340 files of names you can use. I used it to make over 400 names in SystemNames.txt when I expanded quadrant size.

Can't you just edit that system names file? Also, every time I see your sig WanderDaekar I picture Lenardo Nimoy saying it off of Civilization IV Eye-wink

Well, as a helicopter pilot in training, it is fitting. I love being airborne, imagining myself with a bucket and playing "bombadier" or something. Maybe carry a birdpoop dispenser over a cadillac or benz... Laughing out loud

And yes, editing the SystemNames.txt file will change the names you have for systems. Mine is over 400 entries now.

Try these, I took them from the IRM mod, removed names that were only Greek letters and added some other star names that exist in our and other galaxies. This should be fairly accurate (i.e. these stars really exist), but some are shortened because SE doesn't allow spaces. Here we go:

Thanks all. I see the systemsname text file now. I guess you can just erase it and write in your names?

Thx

Yes, but make the backup first and make sure there are no empty lines at the end of the file, otherwise the game will crash when generating maps (really silly bug).
