Head of Snake or Hydrae

V1.25
It's still early in the game but I've managed to take 6th place. From previous experience I have learned that when a first contact race is significantly more powerful than me they tend also to be more arrogant. They do what they want; destroy ships and colonies without thought, as I am beneath consideration and certainly no threat. It is only a matter of time before we are at war for perpetuity.

We met on a sunny day... I was soon to find that this race had blockaded the warp point. My colony ship warped in and by some amazing luck safely retreated. My colony was established and it's initial defenses included one satellite and a level 1 Fighter group. The Phong attacked and destroyed my Colony. Reload...

I decided to cut the head off of this snake before it grew to unmanageable proportions. Instead I just made 'em mad.

I take it to them. I used a Scout vessel to take out their only Colony in this same system.
With no planet to protect, this race does not blockade the warp point. My scout (upgraded) later finds a system full of new colonies by this race. So I destroy most of these and we're still not at war but their eye sockets are bleeding when they think of me. One more planet and a few more ships and we're at war.

Now I'm blockading a warp point with three Frigates having a combination of class two and three equipment including a single shield and no ECM. My enemy starts sending in single Destroyers every turn; no sweat. Then on one fateful day the warp point opened and a flood of Destroyers began pouring out. My Frigates responded immediately but as Destroyers
continued to pour out they began to wonder if they would even survive. Twenty-four enemy Destroyers later my Captains steeled themselves as they began concentrating their attack. Fortunately the enemy crews were less capable than mine. Mine aren't that good either but
my Frigates held their own. Several Destroyers were damaged and they lost 3 before I retreated all three Frigates. They had survived and could be repaired.

The enemy fleet began to move through the system to who knows where. I had lost sight of them. The Frigates returned home. Four flight groups (3 fighters each) were dispatched to the warp point. Two of these passed by the enemy fleet. The enemy had been found. They had passed by the closest colonies including my Homeworld. Orders for two of the Flight groups at the warp point were changed. Engage the enemy.

No Destroyers were obliterated but eight were severley damaged. Two of my fighters were destroyed before the two groups were forced to retreat. (Next turn) My enemy abandoned these damaged ships and continued on their course. The remaining Fighter Wing that was stationed at the warp point was instructed to attack the damaged ships. They finished off all but one. The damaged Fighter Wing was joined by a third Fighter Group of my latest Fighter design. These 7 Fighters jumped the remaining 13 enemy Destroyers. Again all were obliterated but one. Someone has to tell the tale.

I sent a Treaty for Cessation of Hostilities... Somehow I think this defeat will only strengthen their resolve.

Interesting. Out of curiosity, what version and mod were you playing?

Afterall, I've yet to see a large fleet other than mine or a neutral empires in Stock game.
