Busted AI economy???

Submitted by pkoko on Sat, 2007-02-24 12:59. Space Empires V General

Ok here are the facts:
1.25 stock
Map type: Clusters w/ no interconnecting warp points. Basically each AI gets 4-5 systems; totally away from each other. Regular resources not finite.
Date: 2414.X= 140 turns in the game.
AI on hardest level with meduim bonus.
8 total player (7 AI), 1 player taken out by me; Other by Empire B.

Summary

Empire A== 20 planetss. totally falling apart economy (stored = 0,0,0). net negative (50k,11k,15k. ships being disbanded everywhere. Worse Research Centers, Mineing extraction (all resources), storage & space yards are all level 1. This empire has 2 colony types. 3rd empire by score.

Empire B= 8 planets. Huge deficit (-30K) in minerals & radioactives but organics positive. Stored (5k,70k,20k) Only one colony type, by adding another AI might gain 10 more planets. RC=1; mining is at lvl 5 but storage=1. space yard=1. doing simple upgrade all facilities buttom= most mining facilities upgraded. Did have good weapons research though (good job MM). Had most ships and thus 2nd empire by score.

Empire C= Around 30 planets. All colony types researched/ still some empty planets but some colonizers. Again negative net resources in Organice & Rad in -5k range. ok minor issue but stored is 20k,3k,0k. Total storage (130,50,50). How can you have 30 planets with only that amount of storge. RC=1, mining is lvl 5, space yards=1. worse part this empire is only constructing (4k M,0,500 Rad) with those deficits. 1st empire by score. No way w/o resource cheating can this empire be saved.

Empires D,E,F, etc= didn't even bother to check.

Where is my empire for comparision= try net around 1MT per resource with storage around 3MT in minerals and 1MT in both organic/Rad. no point to discuss massive tech diferences. Empire is size 33 planets so it is not a huge,

Bottom line this game deserves better and AI need to prioterize to research RC & extraxtion/storafe techs. and be more carefull spending.

Yes, that´s more of a problem in stock.

By the way I was wondering... does anybody knows what happens if you delete some of the "useless" racial traits from racialtraits.txt? My plan was to force (or increase the chance) of the AI getting mining aptitude, smart etc traits. If I delete the enviromental tolerance trait for example will the AI empire use another trait or will it leave those 500 pts unspent?

And is there a way to select the starting traits for the pre-made empires (eee, jraenar etc.)?

Mine tend not to but I typicaly play the IRM nowerdays and that gives more resorces per facility. The only time I ever saw the AI go bust with that was when there was a ship movement bug which stoped the ships from moving and limited each AI to its home world

to edit a pre made race start a quick start game then save the empire. Having done that for as many of them as you want you can then add these saved empires to a standard game with a bit of fidling about with the game settings and once that is done you can edit them as much as you want.

If you're playing with Medium Bonus, then the empires are already resource-cheating. The reason you see them all having a 'failing economy' when you log into them is because they lose the bonus as soon as you take over, thus suddenly getting far less income( Medium Bonus triples their income, by default ).

Not that I'm arguing against your point about the AI needing alot of work, I just wanted to point out that they're, most likely, not going bankrupt.

For a far better AI challenge, try out the Balance Mod. It provides a game experience similar to stock, but better in all ways. It's going to take quite a while before stock catches up with it, if ever.

Smart point Raapys. I didn't think of that.

SEV, more than a feeling.
