More Bugs/Problems

(First off is there a place to report bugs?)

Let's be real here, this is a very complex game. I'd like to throw at you some issues I've had and seen and see if any of you have some good answers for me because I'd really like to enjoy this game for all it is worth but some things are making it hard for me to do so.

1) I made my first attempt today to invade an enemy planet rather than wipe out their populace and land my own on it later. The first problem I ran into was that my game freaks out and I get the following error after the combat ends when my troops land:

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y235/Darfix/groundcombat.gif

Secondly, I moved a cruiser designed to be a transport in with a fleet of dreadnoughts and a carrier. Is there anyway to teach your fighters/capital ships not to be stupid and attack the planet while your cruiser/transport is trying to invade it? I found it VERY difficult for my cruiser/transport to get close enough without being ripped to shreds because I had to order all of my ships way away from the planet because they wouldn't stop firing at it.

On top of that, as I said, as soon as it said my troops landed and the turn ended, my game freaked out and gave me that error. CTRL ALT DEL told me it was still running but everytime I tried to open the window I got that error and had to ALT TAB out of it.

2) How come weapons designed to attack ONLY (shields/weapons/etc) don't? I am running version 1.25 and tried designing a small fleet specifically designed to capture enemy ships and/or ships of mine that decide to rebel. I had a cruiser with a fighter bay. The cruiser had the weapons that only damage engines and weapons and the fighters had shield attacking weapons. My idea was for the fighters to rip down the shields and for my cruiser to take out the engines and weapons so it could board the enemy ship. But no, instead, the enemy ship explodes.

Then I tried a different tactic. I got rid of the fighter bay, put on a drone launcher, made drones with anti-weapons/anti-engine weapons and used those. The drones destroyed a DREADNOUGHT with only anti-weapon/anti-engine weapons on them! How in the world? This game makes it 99.9% impossible to capture enemy ships without espionage and I'd like to know why. A lot of the specialty weapons seem to be broke. It is very close to impossible and involves a LOT of trial and error to figure out how much damage you need to cripple the ship but not destroy it, and at the same time cripple it without getting destroyed yourself (since I'm sending cruisers against dreadnoughts).

3) The AI tick me off. They all act exactly the same and that can be summed up very easily:

Me: (discovers new race) "Hello there fellow space traveler, it is nice to meet you."

Them: "LEAVE OUR TERRITORY OR DIE!!!!"

Me: "Um...I have 50 dreadnoughts and you have 2 cruisers...but, okay...in the name of peace..."

Them: "GOOD NEVER COME BACK!!!"

Me: (after retreating peacefully back into my land, I notice the same aliens have entered my territory and won't leave).

Them: "ATTACK INFIDELS WHO NOT LET US ENTER OUR LANDS (my land)!!!"

In a nutshell, they get EXTREMELY ticked (and suicidal) if you enter their lands for a second and they respond by entering yours and claiming it is their's. I'd like to play online but I don't see myself having the time to sit down to an online game for a full day or so which is what seems necessary to play through an entire game with other humans on a serious basis.

But yeah, these are the three major problems I see in 1.25 that make the game significantly less fun. If anyone has any solutions or recommendations I'd LOVE to hear it.

New Bug) Playing another game, I boarded and captured an organic ship. It was heavily damaged by my dreadnoughts and the like and I brought it back for repairs. I don't have organics but you wouldn't think that means I cannot repair the ship. For some reason nothing repairs on it even when it's surrounded by a whole fleet of repair ships and landed on a planet with repair abilities. It's annoying. How can I use the enemy's weapons against them if you can't fix them?

Thank you much.

OH--also, this isn't a concern, but a question. I was fighting one race and used my superior espionage to geg about 9/10ths of their fleet to join me, even colony ships. I sent some of their colony ships to colonize worlds that they could breath (hydrogen and I am oxygen) and it worked out pretty good because the worlds weren't domed.

1) Do these worlds have loyalty to their brothers that you are fighting?

2) Can I land some of my race on their and mix up the population? How does this effect my oxygen breathing people when on a non-domed hydrogen world?

3) Can you mix colony ships? Like 50% my people and 50% alien?

4) Can you remove alien crew from their ships and replace them with mine? Not that I want to because their designs use 5x as much people. I like them as my slaves Eye-wink

5) Is it possible to retrofit enemy ships that you capture? It'd be cool to take their unique hull design and fit it with my superior weapons Laughing out loud

6) Enemy ships that join you and still have the original alien crew, do they tend to be more rebellious? Do you need a large sum of your own ships to keep them in check? Eye-wink

Also, I had a huge fleet guarding a ship I had specially designed to open and close warp points but it was computer controlled. For no reason at all it "rebelled" against me rather randomly and I destroyed it. Any reason why my computers turned on me? Sticking out tongue

Thanks again!

Well, I can only answer a few of these....

Regarding your last question, I would assume that someone used espionage to cause your ship to rebell. If you are putting all of you intelligence points into offensive intelligence, you will get nailed like this. Make sure you are saving intelligence points for defensive intelligence.

As far as colony ships which have joined you. The population on them is now yours. They will be relatively loyal though I think they have a higher chance of unhappiness...

Again, I'm not sure, but I don't think it is a good idea to mix breathable races with non-breathable races. I believe that will make the colony domed. More often people use the new race to replace their own where they a atmosphere issued causing it to be domed. it's a quick way to get a lot more space on your colonies.

I'm suprised more haven't helped with these questions....

I too am surprised ^^;

With the rebellion on my ship, it was computer controlled, and I didn't know any races but me, and I had over 150,000 intelligence points in defense at the time. So I don't know if that was the case, but...

As for the using other races on unbreathable worlds, I do do that but I also defend those planets with ships crewed by my own race Eye-wink

Thanks for the assistance Smiling

Ok.

1.) Does this happen everytime in this game? If it does, best is to send an email with the savegame to MM and report what you do to make it happen. This way it gets fixed (if it hasn't been fixed by one of the beta patches already)

2.) I think this is intentional so battles don't stall because neither side cannot hurt each other. Eye-wink

3.) It is known that the AI has some major problems. Playing against humans should be very very different.

New Bug.) Maybe it is intended that you cannot use a Racial Tech when you do not have a Racial Trait. Why must the enemy spend 1000 Racial Points while you just need to capture a ship to get the same tech?

1.) No, I don't think so.
2.) I think you can, but I don't know the outcome.
3.) No, I don't think so.
4.) No, I don't think so.
5.) No, I don't think so.
6.) No, I don't think so.

The rebellion of your ship is strange, but for me it seems like a successful Intelligence Project. Smiling

Alright, well, here's my response:

1) I'll try that again soon and see if it is a bug or not.

2) Still, it makes it impossible to capture ships, which, is very silly.

3) Oh, I know online would be different, but it also seems impossible unless you can plot down in front of a computer for 24 hours.

New Bug) Meh, still pretty stupid that I cannot fix a ship that is 90% damage because I don't have the race's tech.

1 - 6) K Sticking out tongue

Rebellion on my computer ship) As mentioned I had no other race in the galaxy that I knew of.

Actually, I believe you can mix it up with colony ships. However, you have to transfer the cargo (the population) manually and then tell the ship to colonize the world. If you don't, it'll simply load up your race from the planet its orbitting and then take your people to the new world, without taking anyone else's race.

Then again, I've never tested colonizing planets with mixed race colony ships.
