Why are my fleets such cowards? |
Ok, so i've declared war on a neighbour whos planets i have my eye on. However, when i move my 27 strong fleet of destroyers to attack his fleet of 3 destroyers, my fleet just runs away unless i take individual control of each ship in it?
Im sure theres something obvious im missing, any help would be greatly appreciated:)
Re: Why are my fleets such cowards?
Activating the order (in combat) "stop all targeting" or something like that, for some reason when i use it , my ships immediately turn around and start running away. Very wierd. I just wanted them to stop shooting. I use it when i want to blockade planets for future capture, so i can get close and blast its orbital defenses without touching the planet itself.
Without ammo, nice guns are just sophisticated clubs.
Would add to the above
Out of supply
Lack of crew.
being in a task force with unarmed ships all the ships in the task force will behave as if unarmed
task force stratergy is dont get hurt
hope that helps
Re: Why are my fleets such cowards?
no your Fleet leader/ task force leader is out of supply/ ordinance. the rest of the fleet follow him

Re: Why are my fleets such cowards?
Oh, wow, I'm glad I looked at this thread - I usually just clump all my ships together into one big task force! Now I know not to!

Re: Why are my fleets such cowards?
I know there is a morale variable in the system somewhere, I think there may be a cultural advancement that improves morale but I honestly can't remember where I saw it. I have no idea how it gets factored in to the big picture tho.

Re: Why are my fleets such cowards?
There's no actual in-game implementation of morale but it does linger in some of the data files.

Re: Why are my fleets such cowards?
I had the same problem yesterday.
I moved a carrier vs. 2 destroyers. It launched all fighters and they just started to flee and I couldn't turn them around O_O and I lost the carrier.
Fighters HAD ammo and didn't have "don't get hurt" strategy (hell, I already used the same fighters in many fights).
1.35 & BM 1.08.
Re: Why are my fleets such cowards?
i get this also, so what is core and escort mean so we understand?

Re: Why are my fleets such cowards?
Think protective layers, I'll use an apple as an example; The core = the seeds in the middle, in need of protection as they bring about new life. The flesh being on escort duty, surrounding the core/seeds keeping them safe from harm by absorbing the bumps and bruises. Then finaly comes the skin acting as a picket line, providing defence against weaker and not so physical things, such as dirt, grime, bacteria, etc.
In my IRM games i had supply carriers and stuff in the core, then Archers (missile ships) and Gunships (heavy weapons) in the escort, and finaly Unit Hunters (point defence) as picket.
hope that clears things up cause im very proud of this message

Re: Why are my fleets such cowards?
There are a ccouple of things that i noticed that make your ships run away.
Out of ammo
No weapons
The strategy "dont get hurt"
Activating the order (in combat) "stop all targeting" or something like that, for some reason when i use it , my ships immediately turn around and start running away. Very wierd.
