Non-native racial tech: Thoughts? |
I've thought about adding a non-native racial tech technology. For a huge cost (1 million? 5 million?) a race can gain access to a racial technology without having the trait (and, barring any tech trade treaties, they start with no actual knowledge in the tech and have to research more). Ideally, this would only be possible after having encountered a race with that racial tech, but for the moment, it would simply be a basic technology. This can even include other traits like the Hardy Industrialists and even Natural Space Merchants.

In theory when implemented, this is what the EmpireGainedAbilities.txt would allow.

i like the idea at least as a workaround till it is support ingame i always hated capturing a ship and seeing that it was a sizeable tech leap when i when to scrap it and not get anything cause it was a crystal time ect. also in treadys it says to share racial and unique techs

Re: Non-native racial tech: Thoughts?
I like the idea, but for the ones that grant ship components and planet facilities, they should only availble once you have either captured a ship or planet that had a tech item in use. Then, you'd have to meet the rest of the requirements (that you'd set up) before you can research it. It always bugged me that I couldn't gain access to the other racial trees, even after taking over several AI empires that used it. It's one thing not to be able to understand the tech from a small ship but when you conquer a planet, that should enable you to gain access from simple documentation.
