Hellow I am nooby on this game

Submitted by Higaran on Tue, 2007-02-06 23:30. Space Empires V General

Everyone said to me that this game is really Easy.
However not for me ^^;;;
I got Eliminated by computer 3 times but on Fourth time i stood up and have chance to Eliminate one Computer.
I turn my all Research point to Economics and Steller Manipulation. First level of Steller Manipulation is Monolith Technology. What is that Monolith Techonoloy and wht is it doing for my Empire?

Monolith technology is a facility which generated resources regardless off the resource level of the colony it’s built on it generates all three resources minerals organics and radioactive at once. It’s not as productive as the individual specialist facility but will produce regardless of the colonies resource level. Best built on low resource small planets which have poor resource levels when you are short of resources.

Higaran:

The easiest way to learn what does each tech/facility/component is to start a game with ALL technologies (you can set this in the game menu/Empires/settings for all players).

This way you´ll start with everything, and you´ll be able to see and compare components. You can use the combat simulators to test components and ship designs, and find what combination of these fits better to your strategies.

`alltech` will do that.

Well, take all that with a grain of salt. While what he said is true in general terms, the way he said it is VERY misleading, I'm afraid. While it's correct to say that the monolith will produce all three resources, it still only makes them in proportion to the value of each on the planet. Therefore, placing one or more on a planet of low values is a waste unless you also include a value improvement facitlity. Otherwise, it's still far better to place them on one with reasonable - NOT low - numbers.

Note that I'm speaking only of the stock game, mods may be very different.

I always find I need to test claims like that when I encounter them - e.g. the "Space Yards make no difference to production speed if you're not going to make them build ships" claim. High level (or perhaps, any) space yards do speed up unit/facility production.

Playing Touhou games (Go here if interested . No, nobody else is that good/insane as that replay). No rush for SE V bug fixing.

I said that because I had not observed any effect from resource density on a colony but I don’t use monoliths that much since they are less efficient (produce less cost more to maintain) than the individual specialist facility. More expensive to research and build and I find that you only really ever run out of one resource mostly Minerals and occasionally Radioactive's. I have never yet had problems with running out of organics even in the IRM mod where organics use is increased. They do get used occasionally on small resource poor worlds if I don’t have a good place for a specialist facility and I am short of one of them. I develop stellar manipulation for the ability to re arrange the map

I'm inclined to agree... I usually build those ASAP to get their higher production values. (This is in the stock build, not in a mod)

Well, Simon, all I can say is that seems to indicate you don't pay enough attention to details nor have you done the simple math involved. Eye-wink

It's little wonder you think they're no good since you only place them on low-grade planets. But's that's a waste of very valuable facility space. And since you say you're doing stellar reserch anyway, it's sort of a double waste. You can quickly get rid of those mining, farming and refining plants and use them for much more valuable facilities - especially since you've got the tech anyway.

But to each his own, I guess.
