Combat bug or Newbie error?

Submitted by SpaceSlug on Tue, 2007-02-06 22:15. Space Empires V General

Hi All,

I am playing V1.25 of the demo and just don't get combat. I have a fleet of three FG going after a colony ship. My ships alway turn tail and run. All my ships have full ammo and are not damaged. One of my ships did not have any weapons so I took a guess and removed it from the fleet and wow, now my two FGs attacked and killed the colony ship. I thought strange but ok this can work. I attack a different colony ship and only one of my ships attacked the other just went in circles not engaging. So what gives? How can I have a fleet the just does donuts in space when there comrades are bing shot up?

Thanks for the help.

1 ships without weapons or which have their weapons destroyed in combat will run away which is what happened to your unarmed frigate. They will do this regardless of the set strategy.

2 ships without supply can not fire as can ships which have run out of ordinance. Would recommend putting at least one ordinance pod per ordinance using weapon on a ship (DU cannon PD cannon and all seekers) and some supply pods there is a small amount stored in the weapons, ordinance engines, supply. It would seem to me that the ship which circled had ran out of ordinance in fight one and was not resuplyed between fights

I due understand about supply and ordinances. My ships still had 90% of their ordinances! That is why this is SO frustrating! The have ammo but they will not fight! What strategy should I be setting for DU cannons?

Make sure that you also have supply as that will stop guns firing regardless of ordinance level
