multiple fleets in battle? |
I assembled 3 fleets outside an enemy planet and then selected them all and had them attack the planet. The result was I got a separate battle sequence for each fleet! Well actually, at first it was the first feet by itself. When that battle timed out, the second fleet attacked and in the combat screen the first fleet was still there and was able to do another full round of moves. then the third fleet comes in, same story.
something tells me this is very wrong...

Re: multiple fleets in battle? FRUSTRATING
Hi, reaper...
long time no here!
Anyway: i get that fairly frequently, as well-
i took to putting all ships i want to move in together, in the same fleet b/cas i got tired of that.
the weirder part is , ithink its not CONSISTENT.
now i willl have my eye on it and get back to ya's...
I'm still sad you cant attack from multiple hexes at a time...
Do you REALLY think you will subvert System Vampyre before it subverts YOU?

Re: multiple fleets in battle?
How did you move them in? Was it simultaneous or sequential?
If you select all three at once from right next to the sector in question, and its sequential, that is weird. Otherwise, in simultaneous different fleet speeds could have caused the fleets to move on different "days", or if it was a carry over order from a previous turn in sequential the fleets will move separately, even though the order was given together.

Re: multiple fleets in battle?
i tend to check this between turns..
was just trying it again, with drones...
(i know, i know, i'm playtestin')
the drones came in as 1 combat.
u culd be right... as i said , i'll keep an eye on it - maybe it was buggy - and may i hope, fixed?

Re: multiple fleets in battle?
I have noticed if the fleets have diferent speeds they will move seperatly with the fastest fleet arriving first even if all of them have the movement allowence to get there. The first battle is initiated by the arival of the fastest fleet

Re: multiple fleets in battle?
Usually, the fastest fleet/ship arrives first.
Not sure about how distance affects this, I´d like to know since it could allow some tight timing strategies (I/E: mineswepper arrives first, cleans the way, then fighters kill enemy frigates, after that troop transport captures planet)
Re: multiple fleets in battle?
Assuming you're using a simultaneous movement game...
The game engine calculates which "day" during a 30-day "month" each individual movement point is expended. For example:
6 movement points
Day 1
Day 6
Day 11
Day 16
Day 21
Day 26
3 movement points
Day 1
Day 16
Day 30
I'm not sure how it distributes them, of course, other than it's probably fairly evenly distributed, and may have a random element to it (and thus might avoid placing them at the start or end of the month, so my second example might be off).
This unfortunately makes it very difficult to conduct simultaneous attacks, unless fleets have identical movement rates.

Re: multiple fleets in battle?
It would be nice to be able to attack at the same time with different fleets without having to put them all in one fleet.
Even better if we could coordinate attacks from different sectors just like in Jagged Alliance 2.Where your mercs could all attack at once from different sectors thus surrounding the enemy. I dont think it would be too hard to put in the game.

Re: multiple fleets in battle?
I wouldn't mind being able to do that, or have my fleets hide behind moons or stars and attack from different angles.

Re: multiple fleets in battle?
does this mean we can resurrect the sadly-demised Communication & Control discussion?

Re: multiple fleets in battle?
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO please god not that I'm having a bad enough day.....

Re: multiple fleets in battle?
That is strange. It should be moving the fleets together, not one after another... Did they all move in at the same time and give you this behavior, because that would be even stranger.
