Custom computer-run empires not working? |

I started a new game this morning aiming to give the AI a bit of a boost. Towards that end I disabled the randomly generated empires and used the 'add new empire' feature to design some opponents myself (I gave them all 5000 racial points). I set all of them up, toggled on the 'computer control' option in the design screen and started up my game.
Unfortunately after I got about an hour into the game I became suspicious because I had not encountered any other empires. When I used the 'allplayershuman' cheat to see what was going on, I found that all of the computer controlled empires were completely inactive. They showed as being under minister control, but not one of them had built a single ship or started a colony, they had done absolutely nothing.
Has anyone else encountered this problem? Did I make some kind of mistake, or could this be a bug. I'm running the latest version of the game and Balance mod.

Re: Custom computer-run empires not working?
Hmm. It sounds like they might not be pointed towards any AI to use and therefore do nothing. At least with a player the ministers will use the default AI, but it might appear there's an error when setting them to computer control in the game setup.

i remember when i forgot to set an ai (agressive, normal, etc) none of my ministers would work for the empire that i controlled. I assume the same would happen with an AI, that could be the problem.

Re: Custom computer-run empires not working?
there was a bug like this with IRM 0.7a's first release and it was due to a script which ordered all ships to retun to base when they had finished their curent orders but which by a quirk exicuted before they had carried out their orders. The net result was the same exept that the AI built lots of ships which then did nothing what so ever exept occasionaly try to refit. If the ships where ordered to by a player they worked as they where suposed to but when human control was stoped so did all activity exept as discribed. There is a beter discripotion of this bug on the IRM 0.7a thread.
Never seen this sort of thing with the balence mod however.
