Has this ever happen to you? |

Your sitting at your laptop having a cup of tea at 12am playing SEV. Listeing to some lite music while you crush the enemies of your empire like bugs they are. Heck you even remebered to save your game 20 turns ago. THEN.... You clcik the next turn button.. Plaver 2, 3 , 4 (you get the idea)... Then that Blue line starts across your screen, horray its finally my turn and a carrier is going to be complete with a complete fighter wing.) That blue line is still going across... and going, and going, and stops....
It just stops, no carrier, no fighters, no next turn....
(now mind you I have no background programs running or anything.)
20 turns lost like a summers day.... Has it ever happened to you? =(
Re: Has this ever happen to you?
It happened once, because I forgot to reboot it once in a while to deal with the memory loss.....
Since then I autosave every turn.
Re: Has this ever happen to you?
Happened to me several times... But I don't think I've started a new game since the 1.15? (2 patches ago)... I'm hoping those issues are over...
Now just don't accidentally surrender when attempting to Demand Surrender like I've done twice.. without saving recently.... That's particularly worse...
Thanks,
Javaslinger

Re: Has this ever happen to you?
Frequently enough that I ALWAYS put my games to auotsave now.
My sytem is also particularly persnickity about memory address issues with units.
Troll? No, Sir, I am a BADGER!

Re: Has this ever happen to you?
That would have been the equivalent of an RCE (Range Check Error). I haven't had it crash like that in some time, but I have learned the value of SAVE EVERY TURN. So when it does crash I can send a save game file to Malfador to help find the problem.

Re: Has this ever happen to you?
As with Badger, I too see this so frequently that I have turned the auto-save on for every turn. It's such a bad crash that I have to reboot the PC as it appears to lock up windows to the point of no return.
Re: Has this ever happen to you?
There is a definite crash on exit issue but its only a crash on exit and seems to be connected to the memory leak its frequency seems to be connected to the size of your virtual memory and how its set up Particularly does windows manage its size and can it increase it as required it also helps to have enough space to allow the virtual memory to expand into since it is effectively a disk cache. I commonly minimise the game and see a virtual memory is too low warning connected with the slowdown and times where it’s crashed. Did report this in detail to MM but though Aaron is looking into this he hasn’t found the answer yet. I am not sure that auto saving helps other than meaning you have a save to restart from after a crash, it may even make it worse in some cases as SEV seems to make a lot more demands on the system when its doing operations like saving.

Re: Has this ever happen to you?
It happened to me no less than 3 times last night after I got back from work. At one point, it would not allow me to save any games and when I went back into the game from the save game screen, 90% of the WP lines were missing and all the systems that I had colonies in were empty. I just closed SEV, reopened and reloaded an older save and continued on. Very Frustrating since it appears to have corrupted the game in that every time I land on a planet with ruins, I gain NOTHING from them now.

Re: Has this ever happen to you?
I think badKitty is probably right -the autosave MAY just add another variable to the mix, but yes, i autosave b/c after several crashes, i just expect it to happen, and insulate myself against what feels like the inevitable.
a little slower end-turn is worth not losing an hour+ playing time..
Do you REALLY think you will subvert System Vampyre before it subverts YOU?

Re: Has this ever happen to you?
Not since the 1.08 demo but we dident have the go faster stripe then and it also stoped at other points in turn processing.
