components taking more than one slot

Rilo57's picture

I just thought of an idea, like mechwarrior some components could take more than one slot... or even irregular combinations like an "L" shape. Maybe certain slots could only hold weapons... As tech level goes up in a hull level, the requirements would go down allowing components to be placed in different locations.

I guess the basic question is can components take up more than one slot (I guess that's what engines do now, but you can place those all over the ship design).

Any thoughts?

Interesting idea, I'd love to see that for a few components, some of the bigger weapons maybe, and the engines.

only vaguely related ... modular components?

Submitted by Badger on Wed, 2007-01-31 17:21.

sorry - but i cant find it anyway

someone was talking about "directional armor" and wanting to throw in a component - i'll call it a bulkhead - that just soaks up damamge AND respects the directional ship graph/dmg chart...

would modifying the armor to also allow "O" placement have that effect you think?

Lastly:

b4 i finished i thought of htis: what about modular - by which i mean like shields or engines are - the more you have, it stacks- like ..
oh, rails on a railgun, generators for a massive beam weapon, etc. - people want spine-mounted weapons?

what if you made it by the # of (conitguous?)components you put on?
for a beam weapon, as an example, each comp. making it more range/dmg?
or some are rechargers?

talk about your customizable systems!
Troll? No, Sir, I am a BADGER!

that are good ideas....it would be very nice to see a mounted weapon also use more space in the design.
is this possible via modding or does MM need to hardcode it?

In the damgage min and max couldn't you use some get_number_of_weapon_type X equation to modifiy how much a certain weapon does?

or if you had a component like a "supercharged capacitor" which causes more damage per weapon.

SEV, more than a feeling.

No. That function doesn't work in components.txt at the moment.

I made that function up, I was just guessing that there might be a function something like that. Is there?

Yes. That function doesn't work either. Eye-wink (I assumed you just didn't bother to write the actual ability name) Its made for use with AI ship design.
