Another weird thing about the 1.25 patch

When the AI is makin a new design , it would be exactly identical to the previous one ( I noticed taht with the attack ships, dunno for the other designs), it didn't happen with version 1.20

I haven't noticed that problem. The AI in my current game has made different classes of destroyers and frigates. It also made one carrier...(GASP) and there were fighters on board.....(Faint)

not SURE this si the ame thing but i always noticed the AI tends to Upgrade the same basic ship type - it has different names but if you look closely the only diff. is the Tech Level of the components.
too bad it so rarely retrofits...
kwok addressed the retrofit thing, i forgot what he said.
Perhaps these new ships are upgrades?

I think badger is right I think ai upgrades designs with each new teach

it does I occasionaly use the ship design minister to quickly create a set of ships and on ocasions when I have forgoten to turn it off it will upgrade the design if you have a better version of any component which is on it avalible. It also changes the ship names most of the time though it will use the same method as human players on occasions.

What i meant is that the AI would make a new ship design exactly the same as the previous one , let's say for the attack ship class ,except for the design name , no stats changes at all , exactly the same , except for the name , the obsolete and new design and i insist are identicals, except for the name as i mentioned

Yes just when the AI would make a ship upgrade , lets say for the attack ship, in the design room , both , the new design and the previous obsolete design , would be exactly the same , except for the name, that problem wasn't there with patch 1.20

The retrofitting is controlled semi by a variable which says only 1 AI ship will retrofit at any time. Which means it will almost allways be building ships faster than it can retrofit them. It would be nice if instead of a hard variable you can set it to a %age of the current number of ships, say 5 or 10% of the ships it currently has is the max it can give retrofit orders to, rather than just one at a time. But failing that you could at least say it can retrofit 5 at a time or something, and slow down the time between it making new ship designs a little(think it currently forces them every 10 turns automatically).

Wonder if it's possible to make it use the same name and just append a design number onto the ships... and rename the ships on retrofitting.....

Any super modders out there or should I try and do this idea myself? If very hard to actually track if it works or not.

The limit can be easily modded. For exemple, in my mod (IRM), the limit is set to 5 (same as Ballance Mod). If you set it too high, the AI will send whole fleet to retrofit all at once...

is that limit on the whole empire? or is it per shipyard?
certainly i am not correct in understanding the compy is only retrofitting 1 ship per turn-month REGARDLESS of empire size?

is THAT why i always see weird out of date ships?
