ship models

Submitted by LtZapp on Tue, 2007-01-23 06:09. Space Empires V General

Hi All,
Just started playing & played thru the tutorial on the demo last night. Game looks great, but before I spend a lot of time into this and since I haven't encountered any aliens as of yet,can someone please tell me if the different races ship types each have their own unique models, or do all races ships look the exact same with just their own flag over them? Hoping for the former as it was the case in "Imperium Galactica II". Which was another fine game I own as well as "Galactic Civ I" but am examining this one and considering purchasing. Any help would be appreciated.
While I'm at it is Empires IV just as good? Might save me 20.00 if it's game play is the same; or are the graphics in tactical mode/game features that much better to warrant the extra expense? Lemme know. Thanx

recomendation

Each Major race has its own ship set, though there will be some duplication with the minor races. This will become less of an issue as time progresses since their are some very nice ship sets being produced.

SEIV is a very good game and much more mature but its graphics are rather aged and it’s more or less at its peak. SEV looks better and has at least as much potential. I personally think more having played both. The greatest weakness with SEV is its AI compared to SEIV but that’s fixable try the Balance or interrelated Mod and MM has returned to the AI now the release bugs are fixed.

I would recommend SEV and it’s not all that expensive especially if you get it from strategy first not steam where you get star fury thrown in and that’s a little gem in and of itself

Ship models are different

Submitted by TakAhLah on Tue, 2007-01-23 07:16.

In each ship set some of the models are used a few times for example frieghters(small, medium & large) Fighters, weapon platforms.

But in answer to your question all the empires have different ships and you can download some more ship sets at "spaceempires.net"

I'd say SEV is the one to buy but you could also download a demo of SEIV and see the difference yourself.

edit evil you beat me to this post...this time you were lucky Eye-wink

Thanks Folks, I'll reply

Thanks Folks,
I'll reply to both responses now here. Evil: I forgot about SEV being bundled with SF, that may be worth it there as I love RPG's as well. TakAhLah: yes I saw the demo for SFIV after I posted, after doing a google search. I will download it & give it a try after this one to get another free 100 turns on that as well. have to say that I'm pleased that there are race specific models in SEV, the freighters, ect. are the norm with most grand strategy games anyways. Capital ships are my only concern. Smiling Appreciate the feedback. thanks for your time.

There is still a lot of life left in SE4.

At the moment, SE4 is much more playable than SE5, has more stable mods, more races and shipsets and a much larger PMW base.

Considering the horrendously difficult UI designed for SE5, it would be much easier to learn playing the game on SE4. I think the Ford engineers that designed the Edsel were consulted for the SE5 UI.
