How do I repair my ships?

Submitted by Todd77 on Sun, 2007-01-21 20:59. Space Empires V FAQs

I have all of my ships over my homeworld and I retrofitted them to a new design. But the ships have damage, they take damage sometimes when warping. I have selected the ships and hit "R" and selected repair from the list, but the ships dont do anything, dont move anywhere, and arent repaired on the next turn. Please help

Repair musings

You just need a Space Yard in the same sector to repair ships. Note that it might take multiple turns to fully repair a ship depending on how much damage and the repair rate of the Space Yard or Repair Bay.

I have a space yard on my homeworld. Do I have to clear out the construction queue? As far as button clicking, do I just click R on each ship then wait a few turns?

Nothing special req'd

Submitted by Captain Kwok on Sun, 2007-01-21 21:49.

Nothing special is required. You don't even need to give the ship orders either - it's automatic. Typical you'd use the Repair Order to send a ship to a SY location but you're ships are already there.

Check to see if any

Submitted by Riptokus on Mon, 2007-01-22 14:14.

Check to see if any component damage is repaired each turn. It's expressed in % points damaged, and you'll have to check every damaged component. If you've got a repair ship or a space yard it should repair. It's kind of like ordinance and supply, as long as the ship's there it'll get it(Though "Repair" can't stockpile to fully repair a ship when left alone.)

Some weird orders stop repair too, select the ship and hit backspace key to clear its orders. If it's not that then it's a supply problem, assuming both are in the same hex.

How do you use a repair bay to repair other ships in the fleet?

simple all you have to do is to have a ship with a repair bay with damaged ships and they will automaticaly repair. Be warned however that if there are a lot of damaged ships or your repair tech level is low it may take some time.

In regards to your ships taking damage while warping, in case you haven't figured it out yet, this is usually due to mines laid out by an opposing empire.

can cargo bays hold supplies? i figured having repair ships with lots of supplies would help. not sure if cargo bays can be used for anythign more than troops etc [ i use them to carry troops and sats, too]

Cargo bays cannot hold supplies or ordnance in stock, and in stock a freighter hull cannot use supply or ordnance storage components to satisfy the "50% cargo" requirement.

I believe some mods have changed the latter, and I'd support that change in stock; but the former part is more than a bit tricky. Consider that if cargo bays *could* hold supplies and ordnance... getting the right mix of actual cargo (units, pop), supply, and ordnance loaded would be a real hassle to do manually and fairly difficult to script doing right automatically (either ministers or AI).

I had a game where I had 6 ships retrofitted to the newest ship design. Their damage went to 60%...and after 6 turns the damage was exactly the same. No change. I didn't check each component...but the total damage never changed for all the ships. Could my planet have run out of supplies to fix the ships??? (Obviously, I was at a ship yard - that wasn't a problem)

The race on the planet was different than the race on the ships. I theorized that the planet was refusing to service the other race. Racist b*st*rds!!!

Five of the ships were so damaged from the retrofit that they couldn't move. The sixth one I manage to move to another planet w/ship yard and it got repaired after one turn.

I waited 2 more turns and still nothing. I gave up, scrapped them, and built new ships.

But what was up with not repairing for 8 turns????

Hi try using a defferent ship hulls for your cargo/Auxillary ships? frigate, destroyer,Cruiser etc. Then you can place the components you wish, without 50% cargo restrictions? they can be faster to.
Auxillary Repair Ships, Supply Tankers,Munitions ships are common place in my fleets?
I also use Auxillary Repair Ships to speed up refit time to.
So realy I don't see repair a proublem?
Hope this helps
