Defensive space stations don't evenly place themselves around the planet they are protecting.

Project:Space Empires V
Version:1.20
Component:Code
Category:bug
Priority:normal
Assigned:Unassigned
Status:active

Description

I'm attacking an enemy planet (a Huge one) with only an expeditionary force and noticed that all the defensive space stations (heavily armed) were pooled on just one side of the planet. I moved my small fleet over to the other side of the planet and had just enough ships to defeat the ground based defenses and destroyed everything on the planet. I left the bases to be a resource drain (Kind of like the French Maginot line in WWII). Bottom line is that the bases were worthless in the defense of that planet, so they should be evenly spaced to protect the planet since I could have never gotten though the bases if they were spread out evenly.

I think players can move them

Submitted by evilginger on Tue, 2007-01-16 21:53.

I think players can move them about but this is I admit a problem for the AI. Oddly this is not alwas the case and it seems not to affect saterlites

How?

Maybe I have missed this but I was unaware you could place any bases or satellites. In fact until just the other day I thought I would never see an AI equally cluster defensive sats but they had them perfectly arranged. Kind of wish I had saved a pic before blowing them to bits...

Satellites...

Submitted by Fallen Haven on Wed, 2007-01-17 14:56.

The game place satellites evenly around the planet or base that launched them. But base are never placed correctly around the planet (as far as i seen). This is annoying, i hope this will be fixed in the next version. I'm sure it's not a serious coding issue.

In the interim, you can use the sector view option to optimally place the bases if you wanted.

Thanks Captain Kwok, this is cool for setting my own, but enemy bases need some help. I hope Aaron is still making changes.

Is it just sats? Because I Placed a sat I had above a planet I traded with opponent out of WP's range and when we broke treaty and combat ensued it was right next to the planet and got destroyed. This was PBW v1.66/balnce mod. I'm hoping it was just sats that move and not ships and bases etc.. Because if so, than sector view is worthless.

Everything that has transpired has done so according to my design...

I don't know about the computer AI changing satellite/base positions around a planet (I've never traded a planet), but that is consistent with the behavior I have see. Basically, whenever I come across an enemy planet, the bases (and sometimes Satellites) are not positioned evenly around the planet to protect it from all sides. So I end up destroying their planet only because the defenses in some cases have not been evenly deployed to their best advantage.
