Launching Satellites?

Submitted by Nachoha on Sun, 2007-01-14 00:06. Space Empires V FAQs

Ok, I must be missing something, how do you launch satellites? Made a cargo ship with a satellite bay, loaded up some satellites, when over to drop them around a worm hole, hit the launch command, and nothing, tried transfer cargo, nothing, tried jettison, destroyed the satellite. Tried doing the same thing with a frigate, still nothing, how do you launch a satellite?

movemement

You should use the deploy screen and the launch command, the only reason it wont work normally is if the ship doing the deployment has no movement left. Try that as Freighters especially early on run out of movement faster than you think.

Ship has full movement (10)

Submitted by Nachoha on Sun, 2007-01-14 11:49.

Ship has full movement (10) When I go to the launch screen it doesn't show anything to launch, all it shows is the main ship, I have satellites in my cargo, I have 2 satellite bays, but nothing shows up in the launch window.

where are they

Submitted by evilginger on Sun, 2007-01-14 14:34.

not had this happen myself but its possible the problem is where they are stored as if the satellites are in a cargo hold you cant deploy them but if they are in a satellite bay they can be.

Other than that I can’t think of any thing else

satellite and fighter launch... grrr

Submitted by Badger on Sat, 2007-01-20 15:40.

no matter what i turn on or off,

in tactical my ships auto- launch fighters and satellites.

To say it is beyond annoying would not begin to cover it...

Anyone who wants power; by definition, cannot be trusted with it...

I had this problem too...

The answer lies in the strategy for the ship in question. Edit the strategy and turn auto launching off.

one sensor sat per world

Submitted by evilginger on Tue, 2007-01-23 06:08.

Set up sensor grids to detect invaders first off using one unarmed satellite with the most advanced Sensor and scanners you have. True when you have a high enough Tl in sensors you need only one but they are very cheap to build and maintain and redundancy is good especially when at risk of attack.

Missile sats are useful but tend to run out of ammunition relatively quickly but a swarm of missiles early on will blunt an attack.

Pd sats are vital to stop stand off bombardment and fighter attacks as well as anti planet drones which considering that an anti planet drone can do 15-20k damage to a planet is a good thing to be able to stop. Ships are bad at this as a one such drone will kill almost any ship it hits including a PD ship

I use them to guard warp points and monitor sector activity.

dropping in other peoples systems so you get to see their colonies I had forgotten that one but you have to be careful as it seems to irritate some AI's I have found regardless of the level of non aggression clause you have in any treaty with them.

When droping Sats. in another system make sure you can supply them with supplies and ordanence or they become fodder very quickly.
