Mine sweeper problem

Submitted by CCordelayne on Sat, 2007-01-13 16:21. Space Empires V FAQs

Playing SEV with 1.20 patch and Captain Kwok's latest balance mod 1.02.

Encountered my first minefield when a fleet attacked an enemy planet.

I have made a MineSweeper on a Light Cruiser chassis, which passes all the warnings for mine sweepers. It has five mine sweeper components.

However, I cannot get the MineSweeper to accept a sweep mines order! When I give it the sweep mines order (either by selecting from the right click menu or from the buttons in the lower right) I get a blue sector box to tell it what sector to sweep. No matter what sector I click on, whether or not it is the one with mines, and whether or not I have Marked Minefield toggled on or off, the click from the blue sector cursor just moves me to that sector as if I had given it a normal left-click. The MineSweeper ship never registers that it has been ordered.

I've looked all over the Empire options, and have tried all possible "strategies" for the ship.

This feels like a bug. This was never an issue in SEIV.

Anybody got any clues?

mine sweeping

Once mines are known they are marked for your ships to avoid and you ships won’t enter a marked mine field so you have to mark it. You unmark it by using the right click menu with the sector selected. Once the mark is cleared then the ship will enter the sector if it has a enemy colony or fleet in it you will need to issue an attack order and tactically it would be wise to escort your sweepers with Warships

Thanks for very fast

Thanks for very fast response.

I think I have figured out all of that. I think I have a different problem. In my situation, the planet (a new colony) was destroyed in my attack, in which half of my fleet was destroyed by mines. There are no more enemies anywhere in the solar system.

My ships will now enter the sector whether or not the "Marked Minefield" banner is toggled on.

Perhaps they had just started to lay mines, and my fleet blew up all the mines in the sector? Could that be it? Maybe my minesweeper won't go sweep mines because they're all gone--even though the display still shows little pictures of mines.

For those used to the game--will a MineSweeper accept an order to sweep mines in a sector where there might not be any mines at the moment?

the hard way

I think you cleared the mines the hard way and there are now no mines. A mine sweeper will not sweep anything if there is nothing to sweep. If you have decent sensors in range you will be able to see any mines by selecting the sector in question
