research requirements for stellar manipulation

Jagzeplin's picture
Submitted by Jagzeplin on Thu, 2007-01-11 16:47. Space Empires V General

ok this is not including the physics research or whatever field it was to GET the tech area in the 1st place but under the BM the total research cost for all lvl's is 21 million research pts. not bad when you consider that w/o the mod its 324 million! now this leads me to believe that ive solved the issue whether the typo for stellar manipulation was in the program or the manuel (where it says stellar manipulation costs 10,000 not 100,000). i think that since under 10,000 pts a lvl it still comes higher than BM at 32,400,000 then the typo must be in the program. what do yall think. my math may be off since in order to get the research point requirement for stock i had to manually add 1+2+3 etc... until i got to 80 then multiply that by 100,000. i dont know any algorithm to do it faster being that i only graduated with a GED Sad

Typo yes, but it's in the manual

Submitted by Thy Reaper on Thu, 2007-01-11 17:23.

I don't think this is a typo in the game, but rather in the manual. With a huge amount of planets in stock my empire was churning out 4.5 million research points per turn, and it was increasing by 50,000 - 100,000 every turn. That means I could get a new level in stellar manipulation every few turns easily. Within 8 years I would've had every level there was.

Stellar Manipulation is not meant for a standard game, but rather as the epitome of all that is. Only the most impressive of empires can ever hope to be able to alter planets, destroy stars, and build Sphereworlds.

And if it is actually a typo, I would've had all of stellar manipulation in only .8 years. How underwhelming.

invest in anything else and win

Submitted by Jagzeplin on Thu, 2007-01-11 18:05.

yes but it seems that in the vast majority of games u wouldnt have enough planets with enough research labs to acquire it in a reasonable time frame and investing in anything else would bring a more likely victory. but then i dont often play with huge galaxies cuz im afraid the game will crap out before i finish(no offense, still love the game)

Research Costs

Submitted by Captain Kwok on Thu, 2007-01-11 19:44.

The total research cost in stock at medium cost is actually 505,000,000... but in stock the amount of research points you can gain per turn is also much higher, so the costs really aren't super exuberant... just exuberant. Sticking out tongue

what algorithm did u use

Submitted by Jagzeplin on Thu, 2007-01-11 21:28.

how did u get 505 mil? i had to use the pc calculator and type 1+2+3+4... until i got to 80 and then multiply(3,240 by 100,000)

Stellar Manipulation total cost

Submitted by Captain Kwok on Thu, 2007-01-11 21:33.

First, Stellar Manipulation has 100 levels in stock. I think you were confused that is refers to picture 80 for its image, which is directly above the max tech line.

Formula for total tech area cost:
(Levels-1)*0.5 * Base Cost + Base Cost) * Levels
