Deadender AI's

Submitted by Omnius on Thu, 2007-01-11 10:13. Space Empires V General

I've noticed that in every game there's atleast one AI that seems to play dead. I never use neutral AI's as they're a waste. I've seen that in every game one of the main AI's plays dead and acts like a neutral AI never expanding out of it's home system. I've had one that got to 11 colonies and then just stopped. Not a single ship or unit has been built by it.

I've also noticed that after about a 100 turns they seem to go to sleep. Seems like they choke themselves with too much ship building then hit the resource limit wall and then stop doing anything. Got a couple of AI's doing a little bit to expand but several are just sleeping on the job not building new ships or colonies. Got to stop this AI midlife crisis stuff so that they keep expanding if they have room to expand.

The other strange phenomenom I've noticed is that sometimes the AI's park fleets in the middle of nowhere. I had one where it had 2 fleets of 37 and 20 Dreadnaughts just hanging out in one system at the fringes. In I come with a recon frigate and proceed to wipe out every one of it's colonies and those fleets never moved to protect the colonies. Tens of turns later those same fleets were still in the same hexes, although one fleet got reduced by 8 Dreadnaughts due to the resources I trashed earlier.

I've seen the AI build Ship Training Centers yet never park ships over them to increase ship experience. If ships aren't moving they should be parked over colonies to protect them and hopefully Ship Training Centers to improve themselves.

Stock needs help

I think Omnius is looking for the standard game to be brought up to par.

best hope

Submitted by evilginger on Thu, 2007-01-11 15:27.

The best hope for that is Maran's AI mod at the moment since other than improving on the AI it doesn’t change stock. I am waiting patiently for v.7 as he I think intends to go beyond the three AI’s he has at the moment

AI upgrades

Although we shouldn't discount the fact that Aaron will return to the AI and fill in many of functions when he returns to that area of the game.

Modder help?

Submitted by Thy Reaper on Thu, 2007-01-11 16:25.

Might he look at the various modded AI's and include some of the things they use? I'd assume he would ask the various creators, first. (You, Maran, etc)

Improving the AI

Submitted by Omnius on Fri, 2007-01-12 10:06.

I certainly hope that the AI gets improved. If Aaron doesn't have the time to get really involved with improving the AI then he should look at the mods for some help. This game is rather dull without a good AI to play against.

I've mastered playing team mode against 10 little hard, max-bonus AI's. Now there's only 5 little AI's left. One is a complete deadender and over tens of turns still hasn't created a new ship, unit or colony. The others are making some progress but rather slow, as if they're in semi-retirement.

I did some improvement to the AI...

Submitted by Fallen Haven on Fri, 2007-01-12 10:11.

My AI perform way better than stock, but still has some issues to fix. One i find annoying is the retreat bug. Ship that retreat from combat have their orders cleared, but the ministers won't give them any new ones! This mean that anything under ministry control just sit there and do nothing...
