Carriers: not working?

Submitted by Gusset on Tue, 2007-01-09 12:26. Space Empires V General

My carriers are launching fighters that don't seem to work. I'm referring to a simultaneous turns game.

There seems to be no correlation with the presence of supplies, ordnance, or crew.

- The fighters all seem to have zero crew on board.
- Some of them, in the first two groups to launch, move to attack.
- The rest of them just sit still after launch.
- The fighter designs do not impact this...some of each design type involved are in both the groups that move to attack as well as the ones that do nothing.
- The fighters have ordnance and supplies showing after they launch.
- These are all fighters that were loaded onto the carrier via recovery (not cargo transfer). In a previous battle involving a carrier whose fighter wing had been loaded via cargo transfer, similar things happened.
- The carrier has plenty of supply and ordnance storage.

Everything I've described here is from one battle.

Has anyone figured out how to use carriers such that when they launch their fighter groups, they actually consistently do their jobs?

Simple thought..... Remove

Simple thought..... Remove the crew requirement for fighters. Sure not quite realistic but from what someone else said this seems to be the cause of the issue, so if you make the required crew 0, aka the same setup as a master computer, then it shouldn't have this issue anymore I'd think.

crewless fighters

This has also happened to me during turn based games. Just as you describe, the first and second groups launched move to attack, but any fighters launched after have 0 crew and so run away.

I think I will try changing fighters so that they don't need crew until this gets a real fix...thanks for the idea Nevyn.

Carrier/fighter bug

I hope this get fixed soon. It is insane to defeat a carrier with 60+ fighters with 5 frigates having only one casualty...
