About components

Submitted by gaetva on Mon, 2007-01-08 10:30. SE:V MODs

Hello all,

I have a question about components :

Is it possible to have a component which can be used only once
time ?

I would like to make a component as a hero which can be used
only one time in a fighter for instance.

I have tried to look in components.txt file, but it seems there is nothing which permit it.

In case it is not possible, is there a solution to create unique heroes ?

Thanks a lot,
Gaetva.

Don't think it's possible -

Don't think it's possible - once you create a design, there is nothing to stop you from building more than one instance of it. However, you could give it an AI tag ability with empire-wide scope, and then check for the presence of the AI tag, and if it's found, penalize the player somehow (perhaps increase the vehicle's maintenance cost by 100 times and/or negate any special effects of the hero)... Eye-wink

could the AI be scriped to check for the galaxy wide "hero" already being built and choose not to build another one?

SEV, more than a feeling.

You can't prevent it completly.

But it can be easily be fixed through a weighting system for the AI players. The problem is the human player are not bound by the same rules and could build many hero units while they AI would never do...

Events.

On the other hand, you could easily script the events file to find if a player has more than one such ship, and kill them all.

Sort of a disincentive to cheat, hmm? Eye-wink
